How is everyone the 1st night after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had morphinefor my knee replacements, I'd press a button and the morphine would enter my system. At only 20 minute intervals at a time. Do they do this for the RNY?

I told my friends & family not to come see me. There was no way I wanted them to see me like that. I'm real happy I did, too. I was pretty incoherent & miserable right after lol. I even cried a tiny bit. However, I have the pain tolerance of a 2 year old.... So, there's that.

After the first night, though, I was MUCH better! The next day I cat napped a lot & even painted my nails before they discharged me. You'll do great, & that night will go by fast for you!

@, I don't know if the absence of the automated drug delivery system was a personal preference of my surgeon or if they're all like that, but I had to ask for meds to get them. They were super responsive and would let me choose the dosage and such based on how I was feeling, so it wasn't an issue. I think part of the reason was that they would give a variety of meds for different types of pain, whether there was a lot of nausea too, etc., so they wanted to know what exactly I was experiencing in order to make a suggestion how to manage it. I was also very nervous about pain management but it has not been a problem. I am five days post-op from RNY.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
