I know I'm only 5 days post op but....

Recommended Posts

Ok so as I've stated in another post, I'm hungry! And I'm tired of the sweet artificial taste of Gatorade, Crystal light and the likes. And chicken broth. I've also been drinking Isopure for the Protein but it leaves a nasty after taste and it also is sweet....just like the Gatorade and Crystal light (and Hawaiian punch and Wylers) artificially sweetened products. Anyone jump the gun and switch from Clear liquids to full liquids a little early. I mean, I'm only two days before being able to switch to full liquids which would definitely help and give me some other choices like Soup creamy Soup broth or bean soup broth. Just something other than the cold sweet stuff and chicken broth. If anyone did start full liquids or mushy foods early, did you have any problems?

I'm not trying to encourage anyone to do so or suggesting it. I'm just asking for honest input from those that may have felt like I'm feeling....hungry and ready for the next step. LOL

I just sucked it up. That super sweet taste drives you nuts, but hang in there. Sticking to schedule is teaching us the discipline we lacked in the first place.

@@hdd55146 Can you just drink plain Water? You don't have to add All the fake sugar. Or I drank coconut water..do you like coconut water? Pure coconut water isn't that sweet and it a super hydrator. You can usually find The "one" brand at Walmart or almost any health food store carries it. I can't help you with advancing ahead of time...I did what they asked. I know it gets old! Have you Tried the Swanson starter broths? They have savory flavors like Thai ginger, hot n sour, Mexican Tortilla, ect...all broth. I even had egg drop Soup that I strained from our local Chinese restaurant. Maybe try some of these thing and hold off just two more days! You can do it!!

@@Elode Where'd you find the Swanson starter broths? I couldn't find them at my local grocery stores. Are they at Walmart?

I don't like coconut Water but I think I will just stick to Water for the most part. Take a break from the sweet stuff. Thanks ladies!

My Dr advanced me to full liquids when I got out of the hospital 2 days after surgery. I'm having yogurt, and blended Soups but with my Drs consent. I'm doing fine but I think all Drs tend to have different requirements.

Don't laugh but Buttermilk has saved me! I put 2oz of buttermilk in my special measuring glass and it makes me feel satisfied like I ate meat. But I also love buttermilk too. The Protein in Buttermilk is more digestible for me.

OH, and also, cold popsicles are taking the swelling from my stomach too.

I was on full liquids from day 1. Each stage was 2 weeks for me. 2 weeks full liquids, then 2 weeks purees, then 2 weeks soft foods, then regular food as tolerated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
