Ah! Penny! Why?!?!?(My 600 lb life)

Recommended Posts

I dislike all those shows. I think it's fat people porn less interested in helping these people and more a point and gawk at the fat person. There was one show A & E had a few years that I liked where they had the person come out to a ranch for 3 months then sent them home but connected them up with a trainer and nutritionist. If they gained a certain amount of time they went back to the ranch. They also dealt with psychological and environmental factors that made these people gain in the first place. It felt very human and truly concerned with the people involved. Of course it only lasted one season.

I loved that show! The trainers were very supportive and the psychologists. I thought it was very well rounded and had a mix of sizes. All of the weight loss shows seem to have those on the higher weight to lose. What I think would be a great show (maybe help some people avoid getting to where I did) is one where the people are only 30 pounds or so overweight and getting them motivated to lose with exercise and healthy eating for the everyday person. I think that would be a very beneficial and interesting show.

I like the show. Penny was...well a hard one to watch. I was angry at her for being so lazy. Prime example of you have to be ready for this no one can want it for you. I actually think this motivates me to do better..seeing the success and the fails.

Many years ago, I used to work with Penny. She was funny, her co-workers loved her and her subordinates all thought she was very supportive. I was surprised to see her atory. She was overweight 15 years ago, but definitely gained more. She was not the individual that would give up so easily. I watched the show and wondered what changed in her life that made her want to give up. She truly seemed so happy. She didnt have children them, but her son looks adorable. I hope she comes around for the sake of her con and husband.

I haven't watched this show.

Do they continue to work with the people, having them meet with nutritionists, PCPs, psychologists (if necessary), etc., long after their "usefulness" is over (they are no longer on the series)?

She made me very angry also. I wanted to reach through the tv and slap her. She had been given such an opportunity and she wasted it and blamed everyone else but herself for her failure.

I don't know but she had lots of help: nutritionist house calls, the ray via Skype, physical therapy, etc.

What made Penny so infuriating was that she HAD so much help but her own illness/delusion/denial was the main barrier to her progress. As portrayed on the show she was a master manipulator who took no responsibility for her own health and recovery. Everything was someone else's' fault.

I just can't get over the fact that she had a position of responsibility and actually supervised other people according to a recent post on here by a former colleague. SMH.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
