TV "Nutrisystem" meals any good?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure we've all seen those Nutrisystem meal ads on TV, with Don Shula in one and the 'really hot mom and grandmother' on the other. Has anyone tried those meals following LBing? And if so, what were the results?

I am not banded yet, but have tried NutriSystem, all the food tastes the same and after a couple weeks, you just get sick of that taste.

Its cheaper than Jenny Craig, but I dont know if its better, since I havent tried JC's food..

I eat Nutrisystem every day for lunch and for my afternoon snack. Some of the meals are really good and some are horrendous. You just have to try a wide variety to find the ones that you like. Since I'm a slave to my job, I do most of my eating at the office. If it weren't for the Nutrisystem meals, I'd be eating candy bars out of the vending machine every evening. Some Nutrisystem meals that are good are the pancakes, granola Cereal (very yummy!), fettuccine alfredo, chicken Pasta parmesan, whipped sweet potatoes with cheese, Peanut Butter cookie, double chocolate cookie, and the chocolate crunch bar. The great thing about their Snacks is that they are all high in Protein. I was on Jenny Craig about 10 years ago. Overall, I'd say that JC food is better than NS food, but it's not as convenient. Most of the JC food was frozen, so I couldn't keep it here at the office like I do the NS food.

I'd rather eat less real food.

The reason I was inquiriing was not because I wanted to eat larger quantities. It was, rather, for the convenience of preparation. I also wanted to know if the meals were generally well balanced between Protein, carbs and fat.

Yes, they are well balanced between Protein, carbs, and fat. And they are exactly the right portion size for a bandster meal. The meals are all vacuum sealed or freeze-dried. You either microwave it or add boiling Water. It's very convenient, which is my primary reason for using Nutrisystem.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like they are worth a try.

I thought that Jenny Craig tasted better because the ingrediants are fresher. Nutrisystem is either dehydrated food that you have to bring back to life or it's perservative city, like canned Pasta and not that good. Their deserts and Snacks were awful! Like bad faux chocolate or tasteless cheese curls. Jenny has better quality food.

This is strictly my opinion!! No offense to any nutrisystem lovers out there!! I've just done both and some others ones too!!

My nutritionist recommended frozen dinners like Healthy Choice for the pre-op diet. I'm thinking they might also be a good choice for post-op meals. They usually have an entree, a vegetable dish and a dessert. Next time I'm in the supermarket, I'm going to check the nutrition chart on one of them.

ok, i admit it ... i tried NutirSystem after banding - - for ONE DAY.

i was sick of eating 'dog food' and just shipped it back. it tasted aweful. i'm sure there are a few things that taste good but i didnt want to waste the money.

plus, with my workout schedule, i need at least 1400 cals a day or i actually gain weight. :phanvan

good luck to anyone who chooses it though..

I'd rather do this pre-op diet of slim fast and nothing else but crystal light and s/f Jello than eat that horrible NutriSystem junk again. ACk!

Some are good, some VERY bad. Don't be taken in by that chocolate cake they show on the commercial. It is SOOOOOO nasty. Not worth the money. Lean Cuisines are alot more healthy and balanced.

:gossip: Thanks for the info! I'm not that picky of an eater, and I'm much more interested in having food handy, in the correct portion size, and nutritional balance (that I don't have to keep frozen)!!

I have a set of NS meals ordered for my pre-op diet, and it sounds like they may be a key to my late work-nights!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
