Burning in stomach-help appreciated!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I hope someone can help... I have been having a burning sensation in my stomach for about 6 days.

It comes in waves you could say, it's a cross between an empty stomach hungry feeling and intense burning.

I have finished my 30 day supply of Prevacid(sp?) And the burning and heartburn feeling started after that. I'm just wondering if any of you have experienced this and what I can do. I can't seem to get a hold of my surgeon at the moment.

I have tried tums so far as I can only have chewables at the moment. I am 5 weeks out.

Thanks for your help

Sheena :-)

Tums won't work as well for what you're probably experiencing; Prevacid24HR is available over the counter at most pharmacies so you could just go get some of that (or ask the pharmacist - they are extremely knowledgeable and great with helping on this stuff). I was told as long as the pill was smaller than your pinky finger's nail you can take it at any stage, but I would think at 5 weeks out, you'd be fine taking pills now.

I second what @@FrankiesGirl said! You should be fine taking a over the counter med until you can get ahold of your surgeon. I know the one time I forgot to take my PPI it was not pleasant. My surgeon has my refills set up for 3 month Increments, maybe yours will do the same?

Thank you for your replies. I'm just hoping it's stomach acid issues and not something more serious.

I did buy pepcid AC yesterday and it helped a bit but I had to take another one later in the and it says on the bottle not to exceed 2 in a 24 hour period... When really I could have probably used 2 more. It helped just for a short period of time.

Hopefully I can get a hold of my surgeon today! Thank you! !

Hopefully you can get ahold of someone today. I think the prescription med is WAY better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
