Hypothroidism, has it limited your weight loss with sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I know this thread is a month old but wanted to chime in,because I searched the Internet for this exact same answer before surgery.

I am almost 4 months out and have lost 50lbs (15 in my two week preop). So I am not losing fast by any means but I am losing.2 dress sizes down and some clothes 3 sizes down.

It is possible to lose with hypothyroid, no regrets.

congrats on the weight loss! and thanks for sharing... its encouraging to hear that it does work for those of us who have to work a little harder due to underactive thyroids :)

I have been having the same questions too! I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's in October of this year. Through my research, I have found that I also have a gluten sensitivity which might have triggered my Hashi's. I have cut out most gluten...I am not super strict with Soups, broths, salad dressings, etc. I have noticed a big change in my tummy and some in my energy levels.

I know I could be more active but I get bouts of gout too...sighs...it's a viscous cycle. I work with a trainer one day a week, bootcamp one day, and yoga one day. I know I need to kick up my cardio.

I carry most of my weight in my midsection. This is bad bc it causes higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. That makes it even harder to loose!!! Smh...I am really hoping wls will give me a boost in the right direction. It's just going to take tweaking and trial and error.

yup... the "Santa Claus" gut (midsection weight) is my problem too. Not just because of cortisol (which yes makes harder to lose) but several studies I've read say that midsection weight is most dangerous (heart attack/stroke risks).

I too do less gluten but felt a bit burned out and more frustrated than ever after a 3 mo gluten/sugar/yeast free diet resulted in a 2 lb GAIN rather than any loss. I too am hoping WLS can be the tool that can actually help me lose any weight (I've never been able to lose, much less maintain). best wishes to you on this journey!

@txfirefly979@Bleachie, ladies, let me tell you. If you follow the program you WILL lose weight. As I said before, my loss is slower than some, I'm sure my thyroid condition plays a factor but my doctor is pleased with my progress.

I have NEVER been able to lose more than 15lbs in the last 12 years. It was Very, very discouraging. I started at a size 20 & now I'm starting to fit in 14's (4 months ). I Still have a ways to go but I'm doing it!

I wake up every morning & thank God, because I never thought it would happen.

The first few weeks, possibly up to two months after the surgery will be an adjustment period, but hang in there. It is SO worth it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
