chelly12A 15 Posted January 1, 2015 I am 6 week post op and struggling to lose weight. Everything I eat has to much sodium. I was making cheese rolls with a piece of cheese and lunch meat. I bought the tyson chicken, again to much salt. What is everybody eating that isn't full of salt? I get the Protein in but the salt is crazy, help.
heynowkc 329 Posted January 1, 2015 Hmmm I don't have a sodium regulation with my recommended diet. I am only 2 weeks post-op though and have a follow-up with the surgeon and the dietitian tomorrow so I may get more info then. But I got a big binder/booklet from the dietitian that goes over every stage of recovery and I am not even sure if they recommend low-sodium items in the booklet the dietitian gave me other than recommending low sodium broths when I was on the clear and full liquid phase. Definitely wasn't given an amount to stay under.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted January 1, 2015 I do eat some cheese, but not as much as I used to. Most of my Protein now comes from roasted meat like beef and chicken. I don't like fish much, but I do make tuna salad and have that for my lunch most days. As much as possible, I try to avoid anything that comes through a factory....that way I have total control over ingredients. I don't salt eggs anymore - just put extra pepper on them, and I have cut wayyyyyy back on bacon, sausage, ham, and cold cuts because of the sodium.
Elode 8,093 Posted January 1, 2015 @@chelly12A I eat a lot of Protein rich foods but I cook it all at home myself so I know how much seasoning is going on the food. If I get lunch meats from the deli I get the low sodium version( cut thick to eat with cut up cheese) I weigh out my cheese so I know exactly how much I'm eating and I track everything with my lose-it app, that way I can keep an eye on the sodium intake also. It takes longer to cook everything from fresh but at least you have control that way. I also eat a lot of seafood shrimp, crab legs, boiled eggs, all have minimal amounts of salt.
