ls27 12 Posted January 1, 2015 I am new ! I went to the surgeon in Dec. and just finished all my testing this week. I was able to move my date up from Feb. 3 to Jan. 26. I am heading back to the surgeon this week for all my clearances. I am having my fingers crossed I am approved! I was on the lower end of the BMI scale. Starting at 201 5'3. Over the past month I stopped going to the gym and have definitely not been eating right and have gained maybe 10 lbs. My endoscopy came back I had a hernia in my esophagus and gastritis. I have to have another endo. Jan 12 to be cleared. Anyone else have this issue?! I was prescribed prilosec and have kicked caffeine for about 2 weeks now so that I would not have the headaches while on the 2 week pre-op diet. FYI my insurance is Empire BCBS (MTA in NY) Anyone a lower end BMI with EMPIRE BCBS??!

CanyonBaby 1,852 Posted January 1, 2015 Welcome! I started at 223lbs, and the doc. found a hiatal hernia during the surgery. He fixed that and I have had no issues. The hernia has made my recovery go just a bit slower, but all is on schedule. Just take everything slowly while recovering, and you should do fine! Take care and good luck! Aranks 94 Posted January 1, 2015 You have NYSHIP too? (Dad works for NYCT). I was just sleeved on November 28th. Most doctors love working with us and our insurance lol. I had a BMI of exactly 40 when I started the process and slightly less when I was sleeved with no issues. I didnt have a hiatal hernia but my dad did for his bypass they repaired it while they were performing the surgery. Did you start the process at a BMI of 40? Or do you have any other comorbidities? If so it should just be a breeze.
ls27 12 Posted January 2, 2015 I started at exactly 35. I did do all the testing so I did a sleep study this week and assuming I have sleep apnea. I would think my doctor wouldnt push me this far along and give me a date the first visit unless he thought for sure it could be done. Unless this has happened to anyone else and was not approved ? That's what I'm afraid of
ls27 12 Posted January 2, 2015 Plus I took off 3 weeks of work already and told them I was having a different surgery because I didn't want to tell them. So I'll be so frustrated if I don't ! ????????
Penny C 16 Posted January 2, 2015 I am scheduled January 26th too. Got date at first visit pending all the evaluation were fine. Did psych, cardiologist, pulmonary and dietician. Today is primary care dr and I'm all set to go. I started all this more for the hernia repair than weight loss but am grateful for that too. Hardest for me will be giving up caffeine. Any helpful tips for that ?
ls27 12 Posted January 2, 2015 I literally just stopped and took excedrin Migraine and drank tons of Water. I figured it would be easier to quit now then to have to quit while on the 2 weeks pre op diet ! It's weird I get up and go to work I feel like I'm forgetting something ! But nope just my caffeine lol
