Hi, I am 11 weeks out and have had 2 fills, 1.2 cc's and .4. I go next week for another. I feel restriction on certain foods and my doctor told me eventually some foods I will not be able to eat. I was wondering if someone who has been post op for a while can show a days menu.

thanks

Stephie

Here's what I had today:

Breakfast: 1 cup of special K Cereal with 4 oz skim milk

Snack: 2 graham crackers with coffee

Lunch: Deli sliced turkey on toasted rye bread with lettuce and a teaspoon of mayo. I brought home half the sandwich.

Dinner: Breaded thin sliced chicken cutlet, one cup of steamed green Beans, 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes.

Dessert: 60 calorie jello-o pudding and tea

I have my surgery on June 27th! Yea! I have to say, to say Elisabethsew, that is how I have always dreamed of eating (and being satisfied!). :) You cheered me up and made my whole day!

I have heard of a lot of other people who have more of a fill not being able to eat bread, rice noodles, etc. with out throwing up. I haven't tried bread. There are some posts you could search on "which foods are you not able to eat" or "which foods give you trouble"

I have managed to convince myself that I will have trouble with certain foods even before I am sufficiently filled. This works pretty well, lol! It has kept me away from bread, beef, noodles, etc. Though I did eat popcorn the other day...

I can eat popcorn like I don't even have a band. It makes me mad. Some foods cause so many problems. I wish pop corn did. If I go to the movies with anyone else, they don't get popcorn, but my daughter always does. I usually have a couple of handfulls and think I wish it would get stuck so I wouldn't crave it.

Denise, have you tried the 100 calorie microwave bags of popcorn? About the only food I can't tolerate is Pasta. It's strange that I can eat a huge salad without difficulty but pasta will NOT stay down no matter how much I chew or what kind of pasta it is. Interestingly, I can keep rice down without difficulty.

Most people can do "junk" food without any problems. My surgeon warned me about that on the first meeting. He suggests the bypass for junk food eaters and lapband for high volume eaters.

Good morning all;

I am not banded yet, June 7. I had my appoitnment with my surgeon on Monday and with the dietician. She presented a lot of food examples and how some people can eat one thing once, and then the next time can't. Also, some can eat rice, others can't. I guess I will need to test out the foods. I am nervous about giving up some food altogether, but then again, giving up beef and Pasta is not a bad thing! I already eat mostly chicken and fish.

My son is gettng married on JUly 7. My first fill will not be until mid July. Will I have more flexibility to eat at the wedding since I don't have a fill yet? I am not sure what foods I will be on at that point, I am thinking mushies? I plan to sip some wine, and mush a small piece of wedding cake! Any ideas?

Elizabeth, thanks for the menu idea!

Janine

If you don't have a fill yet, and you are on mushies, there are quite a few things you can have. My dr. told me mushies is just another word for soft foods. There is a secion in here somewhere that lists a lot of mushy foods.

It's probably in the food section.

At 4-5 weeks out you'll be able to tolerate a soft diet with no problem. You can eat fish, soft potatoes and cooked veggies, etc. Cake will go down with no problem. Once you start getting fills, you'll begin to feel restriction but most people get no restriction with an empty band so you should be able to eat at the wedding with no one questioning you.

I'm tellling you- I have friends that have very tight bands and can eat a huge tub of pop corn. It must just go straight down out of the pouch into the stomach.

Popcorn! Wow, movies here I come...LOL I was told yesterday junk food just goes straight down, it has not nutrients and disolves. But I agree, pop corn usually is harder to digest, but sounds good. you can eat the low fat, low salt, kind. it is a healthy snack.

Thanks for the informaiton on the wedding and eating. I am sure I can find some soft stuff! Would Pasta hurt me then since I won't have a fill and the opening is not as tight? The reception is at my house beleive it or not! It will be totally crazy.

I don't think Pasta would give you a problem without a fill. Just be sure to chew well. You don't want to get plugged up. It hurts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
