Most of my indigestion/cramping with meals went away by 6 months. There were some foods, like whole wheat bread and pineapple - high Fiber foods, that still caused some mild cramps.

By 1 year, I could eat nearly everything with no complaints from Frankensleeve.

At 2 years, there are only 2 things that Frankensleeve sometimes complains about - baked chicken and Taco Bell taco sauce (the version you can buy at the grocery store - I've never been to Taco Bell since surgery B) ).

I'm still in the honeymoon phase at 3½ mths out but right now food just serves a different role in my life. I'm okay with eating just enough to fuel me. As for your gas pains, have your doctor prescribe you something. I've been on generic prilosec since day 1 post-op. It took some trial and error but I have the timing as to when I need to take it down.pat now. I tend to get acid in the afternoon/early evening so I take 1 40mg pill around 2 -3pm and I'm usually fine.

Thank you so helpful :) I feel some days I can eat more and I feel fine then other days I cant eat as much and I get painful reflux but I guess it is all part of the healing process :) xxxx

That reflux is not good and can cause ulcers. Please call your doc or buy prilosec/omeprazole or gas x strips over the counter. Figure out when the acid is the worse for you and take it 30 mins before eating. I also used tums chewables if it still occurred but my doctor increased my dosage from 20mgs to 40mgs and that seems to have taken care of it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
