New here and nervous.

Recommended Posts

Hello I am currently eight days postop. I decided to have the surgery even though I am fairly new to the Dallas area and don't really know any people out here.I do have to say that I think this is the most nerve-racking thing I have ever done. I am down 16 pounds since my surgery eight days ago.but I must ask did anybody else question if they made the right decision after they did the surgery?

Completely normal. Pretty much everyone has regret at first. Once you start feeling better and start eating a little more "normally" and seeing how much you're changing as you lose, you will be happy you did it. It gets better and better each month that goes by. Hang in there!

I questioned it before surgery, but once I committed to surgery, I vowed never to regret it - no matter what I had to go through (not that I had much choice about what was going to happen post-op. )

I did as much research as I could pre-op and JUMPED!!! B) It was the most terrifying thing I've ever done. I always have a backup plan - a way out. There was no going back on this. Ummmm.... unless you know where I can get a donor stomach for a transplant??? Ebay?? Craig's List????

Lol I guess that's a valid point. There is no turning back now. I guess I have just been putting myself though it. Plus it did not help that I was told that took the easy way. I have to say there has been nothing easy about this.

Yup I thought I made a mistake the first 2 weeks or so. I definitely don't think I made a mistake at this point (5 months out). Once you are off the restricted diet and have more freedom and are all healed up you should be much happier. Best of luck!

Once you're farther out from your surgery, you should really see the benefits, and slowly forget about the pain, and nervousness and maybe even fear you had. Then you can experience the joy of a healthier, happier life that you did for yourself. You obviously thought yourself important enough to give yourself this gift, so now it's time to enjoy it! And you have all these people on this site to help see you through any difficulties you may encounter. Pretty good deal! I wish you all the best, just look forward from now on!

I never had any regrets. Not before and certainly not after. I thought long and hard about this. By the time I made my decision I was certain it was the right thing to do. As for people saying you took the easy way out, ignore them. They have no idea the work involved in this.

I had several bouts of "what have I done " in the first few weeks, but now that I'm 4+ months and 60 lbs out I'm feeling very happy. It took a while to get used to what is my new normal but I feel so much better and it's getting easier every week to manage. I survived the holidays without gaining (lost only 2 lbs in 3 weeks-yes I indulged a bit) but I'm back on track now. Exercise is critical physically and mentally for me. Hang in there. It gets better. It does take a while but you'll figure it out. ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
