I was thinking of buying a scale but wanted to know how many of you vets actually use one and/or recommend it.

I use my scale religiously. I weigh everything! It not only helps with portion sizes, but also converting nutrition info down to what I am actually eating, since I no longer eat a full serving of anything.

I bought one off Amazon, but don't use it very often. Most of my food I measure in a cup, but for those times when I can't tell how many ounces of meat I'm eating, I use my scale.

This is the one I got.

Includes FREE EatSmart Calorie Factors guide - Portion Control and calorie counting made easy!

I had bought the EatSmart brand digital home scale and liked it, so buying the food scale was a no brainer. :P

Get containers with the ozs marked on them. Easy peasy. Screw all of the extra stuff.

Figuring out how much I could hold was really trial and error. For example, I can hold more turkey hamburger than beef hamburger (must be all the tough scrap meat in there). And chicken is the toughest thing to digest to this day.

For over 6 months, I couldn't eat more than 1/2 cup of anything per meal, so I just bought some 1/2 cup gladware containers. Fill one up, and I knew that was a meal.

After 6 months my sleeve seemed to "relax" and I could hold more - 4 to 6oz of meat. But I always had to eat slowly and teach myself the warning signs that I was on the verge of being full - bubbles moving around the food in my sleeve.

The old feelings of fullness had changed and there was no longer a building sense of getting full. One bite too many and I went from "okay" to uncomfortable.

Ok, so measuring meat/food...do how do you know how much? u measure, weigh, eat, figure out how many ounces is your limit?

I use my food scale pretty much everyday. I just got a new one from costco yesterday. It was on sale for only 14.99 and it is stainless steel and black and has a large area so you can see the numbers much more clearer. Plus it doesn't hurt that it matches my kitchen beautifully!! ;)

I got mine at costco. It's digital and I weigh everything I eat at home and log everything in MFP.For liquids and softs(yogurt, cottage cheese, almond milk)I use measuring cups. One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is how much my eyes and brain tell me I'm hungry for and how that translates tangibly to my new tummy. I have never weighed out a total of more than 6 oz of food and depending on what it is, I usually can consume about 80% of it.

For me, although I have the best of intentions and the lack of capacity to gorge myself, the act of being responsible around food, taking time to plan for meals, weigh them and sit down and actually chew my food, is a big deal. I was never ever mindful of what I put in my mouth before this journey began and weighing and logging my food is an important part of being accountable for my own success.

I use my food scale every day and I have had it for a few years. I bought it at Aldi for $10. It is the right time of year to snag one at Aldi in the next couple of weeks. My nut said a food scale is just as important as measuring cups and spoons.

It's funny because I am so meticulous about everything else. I think that years of working to clean up my eating habits have helped me become fairly decent about eyeballing and guestimating measurements.

Thanks ya'll!I will definitely get one. I just won't know what I'm measuring for until I see how much I tolerate right?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
