6 months post op on Jan 2.

Recommended Posts

Well,

Things are going well. I am still having to get use to reminding my self that I have to slow down when eating. Sometimes i am so hungry that I forget lol. I am doing better with getting my Protein in each day. I usually eat about one cup of cottage cheese a day which is about 22 grams of Protein total. I make my self a fruit smoothie with one scoop of my Bariatric Advantage vanilla protein. I also found out(which i was so happy lol) that Lean cuisines have a good amount of protein. The one I had yesterday was 20 grams. Any ways I have lost 75 lbs total. I have my 6 month follow up on Jan 8th. I am wearing a size 12-13 now from a size 24. I feel great and people tell me I look like very young now lol. I will post some before and after pictures when I get home tonight. Happy New year everyone :)

I just got a bean bread recipe. I haven't tried it yet because I'm really not craving breads yet but I'll share it for any of those interested. *I lost the link to the site. I'll edit if I find it later.

2 eggs, 2 Tbsps raisins, 1/4 tsp baking soda. Blend til smooth. Add 1 can of rinsed great northern Beans and blend (will look like cake batter). Pour into round (approx) 2 cup microwave safe container. Place off center in microwave and cook about 4-5 minutes (until top is no longer wet and it springs back). Remove from container and let cool on a wire rack.
*The original recipe is from this book/site. I've modified it to just make 1 bread (recipe makes 2, but you must cook them separately).

Beans are good carbs because you also get Protein, Fiber and nutrients along with it. Entirely different than carbs that come from white refined flours that bring nothing else to the party. I'm vegetarian and have eaten loads of beans both pre and post op.

True, they are FAR better than white flour or other simple carbs. but my NUT says still too many carbs and not enough Protein and every one gives different recommendations. I wasn't allowed ANYTHING not high protein/very low carb until I was getting my 80 gms Protein per day, took me 18 months till I could even have non starchy veggies, lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
