kenb79 95 Posted December 31, 2014 Just curious if there are other guys on this board who are on TRT? I have been on TRT since May 2014 and along with my surgery and losing 105 lbs so far, my life is so much better. -Ken

Subsequently, I have read and heard a lot of data that warns of very severe side effects, including death. Be careful....... Recycled, I don't agree with your statement regarding the risks. If you are using a dosage above what is considered replacement, yes there are serious heart and stroke related risks. If you aren't producing testosterone at a normal level, there are real and serious side effects to Low T. Injection based Testosterone replacement to a health normal level for your age is what I'm talking about and is what your body needs to function properly. I do not advocate a do it yourself TRT or over the counter pill based TRT. I've read that pill based TRT can damage your liver. Cheers and Happy New Year! -Ken

Second, I went to my PCP and had all the tests done and was using prescribed injections and monitored for replacement therapy. However, in a debate between my PCP or Endocrinologist and my Cardiologist........the Cardiologist wins every time. But hey, that's just me, and my needs might surely be different from others. To each their own.
p1Sz 52 Posted December 31, 2014 Kbuska, may I ask if you saw your T levels change at all after surgery?
kenb79 95 Posted December 31, 2014 Kbuska, may I ask if you saw your T levels change at all after surgery? I was asked to stop taking it for two weeks after surgery. It was also suggested that I inject every 14 days instead of every week. At 6 weeks post op my levels were below baseline. That's when I took a more active role. In the 100 lbs I've lost so far I haven't seen a change in my average level over time. Having said that my body isn't producing testosterone right now so who knows if losing the 100 so far would change my natural levels. -Ken
Bigboy76 102 Posted January 1, 2015 I am on TRT and have been since 2002. I have regular checkups and labs and everything is just fine. I was just discussing with my doctor possibility of getting the patch so I don't have to apply daily. So...still alive and kickin over here! As for VSG & TRT...I have lost 80 lbs and haven't checked my levels. I have been off my meds for last month or so, and don't really feel any surge in Testosterone. Are you trying to get a baseline now that you have lost weight? The period I took off for surgery and a few weeks afterwards was complete hell. I had no energy, no desire to do anything and zero libido and trouble with ED.
Bigboy76 102 Posted January 1, 2015 No, I just had run out of prescription and hadn't been back to PCP. Since I was out, PCP wanted to get me a boost. I was mostly low energy and mental clarity was off. I never have problems getting an erection, it's just not as firm as I like it when I'm off the meds. Sex drive does get low when I'm off meds. I will say, however, since surgery I have had a hell of a lot more sex. We've been going at it daily which was definitely not the case pre-op. So...I'll discuss the plan to see if levels are enough to decrease TRT at some point. Not in a big hurry to do so right now!
p1Sz 52 Posted January 2, 2015 I would think continuing TRT after surgery could lessen muscle loss that often comes with significant weight-loss.
Justoperated 141 Posted January 2, 2015 Which injections are you taking?@ I thought they are every three weeks. I had a discussion about it with my Endocrine a year ago, since my levels were lower side of normal. He did tell me of some increase risk of heart disease, sleep apnea and prostate enlargement. At that point we decided to watch it and get tested again, if they drop, he will put me on TRT.

I have been on TRT since May 2014 and along with my surgery and losing 105 lbs so far, my life is so much better. -Ken Hey Ken I've been on Testosterone therapy for a few years now under the guidance of my PCP who specializes in T therapy. The key is you have to have your blood work checked every three months. When needed I cycle on and off for 3 month; this is again under the watchful eye of my PCP. There is a lot of misconception out there on the subject and circumstances are different from individual to individual. I feel great since since I've been on the T replacement therapy. My levels are in normal range as well. Take care SuperKen
kenb79 95 Posted January 3, 2015 That's great to hear. I've been on it for six months now and I feel normal again. Its like a cloud is lifted. I'm curious if those who are on this forum who are on TRT are that was primarily because of obesity. I'm still trying to determine the root cause as my PCP isn't a specialist is hormones or TRT. Why so you cycle off for a few months? If your hemocrit is high, you can donate blood. I would think cycling off would be a big shock to your system and you would feel like crap. Well the T range level are from 250 to 1500 when I was first checked and diagnosed with low T I was 158 ???? yes 158 my PCP joked with me that I was basically at a female level for testosterone. Now with I take a weekly injection. The reason I cycle on and off is to give my thyroid a reset if you will. Actually after loosing over 240 lbs pre and post op so far and along with my workout routine I feel ok during my off cycle. I should say this obviously T replacement therapy as well as any other hormone replacement therapy should be taken very seriously, so one should seek out medical advice from physicians who are experts in this particular area.
