EXTREME Pain, 1 day post-surgery

Recommended Posts

In all the forum postings I read, most people complain about their incisions being painful. I had a single incision surgery, which hasn't bothered me at all. But, my stomach...OMG, the pain. ????

I had 6 tiny incisions and they bothered me getting up from bed. It was a pulling soreness kind of thing. A single larger incision is likely to hurt a bit more, especially once the powerful meds wear off. I am only saying this because I had a C-section with my 3rd baby. A little discomfort is to me expected but severe pain is not normal. In my opinion, anything extreme should be called in to the doctor. Focus on telling them exactly what your symptoms are. Be as to the point as you can. Rate the pain on a scale of 1 to 10 and make sure they take you seriously.

Where you advised to take pain medication?

Good luck!

I got the hiccups the day after surgery and think I stretched my staple line. I was hurting baaaadddddd! for the following week.

I couldn't take the liquid pain killer they sent home with me, the taste and consistency made me want to throw up. It took about 7 days, but all the pain eased up and went away. I was back at work on day 11.

Hang in there, it does get easier.

My stomach hurt a LOT worse than I was expecting. I was slightly angry about that! On the bright side, it gets much better within a few days time. Habg in there!

Thank goodness. Again, I had surgery less than 24 hours ago and I'm still in the hospital. I don't think my pain meds are the best, but when we removed the pump for a bit around 4am, I realized it was working more than I thought.

The pain may be the gas from the surgery! They didn't explain to you that you would have gas and bloating from the air and just the surgery itself?

Not all pain meds work the same for everyone, so complain now while you're still in the hospital - I got released Thanksgiving day and think that contributed to getting ignored. If the pain isn't under control, it makes everything else sooo much harder!

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
