I used to be able to drink coffee with no problem, now it seems like either 1 cup = 4 or maybe it just won't agree with me anymore. Has anyone else ever have this problem??

I drink less coffee too. I'm at maybe 1 cup a day. I've read we shouldnt drink it at all, that it isn't "band friendly" but haven't seen any explanation as to why that would be. Does anyone know?

After my last fill, I only drink one cup in the mornings. Sometimes just a half a cup. I just can't tolerate it much anymore. I'm glad, because I used to drink too much, one more positive thing the band has done for me :)

Pam I haven't heard why we shouldn't drink coffee. Maybe because caffein (sp?) can irritate the stomach?

I do believe it is because it is considered an irritant and could possibly aid in erosion. It has definitely been proven to cause gastritis in some people.

Hi Tall Guy!

I drink my coffee every morning ( 2 cups with cream and sugar)

It has not bothered me one bit nor has it slowed my weight loss with the cream and sugar I add to it..

My Dr. told me coffee was OK but now Leatha has me worried about the erosion thing. I will have to call him and ask him about that

I think coffee can be an irritant. I can't drink it in the morning anymore. I can drink cold coffee drinks, but hot coffee in the morning just makes me nauseous. I did have some the other night that went down pretty well. Just depends on the person. My doc told me that I could have coffee if I wanted.

I am not a big coffee drinker either, but when I was banded 3 weeks ago my doc told me that caffiene was a stomach irritant and an appeitite stimulant and that I should have a very limited amount or none. I drink alot of tea so I have switched to Decaf.< /p>

Let me tell ya'll my theory on coffee. I quit drinking it after I got banded, because I read that it could be an irritant to the banded stomach. The weight seemed to fall off effortlessly. Then I began to drink my 2 mugs every morning, and the loss seemed to slow almost to a stop. So I discontinued it again recently, and now I seem to be losing better. One of the gals I work with said that she read that it stimulates insulin production, which slows weight loss. Anyone else hear of this?

That makes since ya know. If a drink or food causes your body to release insulin you won't lose or you won't lose as fast according to the late Dr.Atkins.

I drank 2-3 cups of coffee each morning religously until I was banded. I gave it up my first month then gradually have workred my way back up to a cup most mornings. If I don't drink my one cup of coffee I'll drink one glass of Iced Java Drink mixed with protien powder in it and call it Breakfast.

I do not know if I agree with that theory..I drink 2 cups every morning loaded with cream and sugar and I have been losing 2-3 lbs a week with no exercise and no effort since surgery 6 and a half months ago . If anything it is an appetite suppressant for me..just my theory

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
