Yes, definitely. The first couple of weeks I was extremely emotional. I think - in retrospect - it was really a grieving process for me. I was grieving the loss of food (my coping mechanism, my stress relief, my celebration go-to, my emotional release), etc.... plus your body is kind of freaking out because of what it has been through. It will get better, I promise!

you go ahead and cry girl! anesthesia can effect your body and you have just been through a ton of stress and body invasion. Crying helps your body release toxins (kind of like sweating) but also helps relieve emotional stress. I cried a few times as well, my mom just kept telling me, "get it out, don't feel bad, just get it out." I think that's good advise here. Listen and let your body do what it needs to so it can heal.

My surgeon warned me of emotional turmoil. He said my hormones would be off the hook. A week out today and so far I've been fine. Hang in there!

So glad I found this thread. I have been crying and am an emotional rollercoaster. I am 6 days post op. I love the support that this site provides. I can not say thank you enough for the real experience everyone provides that makes me feel I am not alone.

Cry? Not at all. I did my crying way beforehand. You probably have a temporary hormone thingy as hormones are released from your fat cells. Mention it to your doctor. Everyone is different.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
