I didn't do liquids but for 3 days, then I went on to mushies. I had mashed potatoes, applesauce, yogurt, squash, and spaghetti sauce with turkey meat run through my food processor. Once I ate real food I felt so much better energy and strength wise. My doc said it's all what you can tolerate, he actually urged me to get back to normal eating as soon as possible.

Well my doc would say "yes," but my doc's team has people on mushies before they leave the hospital. You should call your doctor and ask about this. It's really important to follow you doctor's specific instructions.

I LOOOOOOVE Tomato juice, and I find a big can of it to be quite filling for only 60 cal. But it does have a lot of salt in it, if you are trying to avoid salt.

Hi Joanne...

I was banded the same day as you and I am HUNGRY too! I am so sick of Soup and broth right now that if I never see it again, I swear it will be too soon. I can't go on mushies until Monday so I am feeling your pain. Just trying to count down the days and promising myself I will not cheat and eat mushies too soon. I have found that the New whey Protein bullets are helpful with hunger. I drink one in the morning and have had to add another in the afternoon. Seems to help.

Hi, I was also banded 5/14. I'm on the 2 week full liquid diet, its very difficult as I'm now feeling better and feel hungry. My husband made spaghetti last night for kids . . . I strained the ragu, added a bit of sugar and parmesan powder and slowly spooned about 1/4 cup. It helped me feel like I was eating again . . . but that's also likely high in sodium.

I am allowed yogurt (without fruit pieces or seeds), puddings (you can add Protein powder and a little cool whip). Butterball chicken broth really is delicious, but again, probably high in sodium.

Is anyone newly banded having trouble keeping liquids to 1/2 cup in 1/2 hour consumption rate?? I sure am! I hope that as long as I'm still trying to take it slow & tolerating it well, I'll be fine.

Monday is puree day for those of us done on 5/14. Start planning your menus, maybe you'll feel like you're getting closer!!:(

I was banded 5/16 and am also on week 2, liquids-only diet. I've found that Protein drinks really curb my appetite, while juices only increase my hunger. I go for Atkins Advantage shakes which have only 2g of sugars per serving. After a Protein shake, I'm good for at least 4-5 hours. A temp solution is K2O from Kellogg's which has 50 calories and is high in Protein, but also high in sugars. However, they're good for about an hour or two for curbing appetite.

A friend told me that she is having smoothies (thinner than the normal so that it easily passes the sucked-through-a-straw test) by running fat-free milk + whey Protein Powder + a bit of fresh fruit like strawberries or mangoes for flavor through a blender. I'm going to try this today.

Good luck on your journey.

Ive not done the Protein drinks yet i think i will have to get some tomoz has all the shops are shut now . is the slim fast shake ok or are they full of sugar ? my other half was meant to be getting me the protein drink when he went to the gym but he forgot bless him

SlimFast shakes are very high in sugar. They do make a low-carb version of their shakes, but these are harder to find. Boost also makes a low-carb version, but they are also hard to find. The Glucerna brand has low sugar, since these are aimed at diabetics, but they are still higher than Atkins. Another alternative is to get Protein Powder and make your own shakes. If you have a GNC store near you, they have many choices thaht are sweetened with sugar substitutes.

I was banded may 2nd 2007. I just started witht e soft foods. But I haven't weighed myself since I have been off the liquids. I guess I am afraid that because I have been feeling full instead of hungry, I must be gaining weight and I am afraid to look incase I have gained. Is that crazy?

My .02 - there's no such thing as crazy. Only strategies that are empowering and those that are dis-empowering. I am sometimes reluctant to weigh myself for exactly the same reason, but then I remind myself that by knowing the truth, I empower myself to take the appropriate action. And if it turns out that I have gained weight, then all I need is to take the necessary steps to fix the problem.

The analogy I use is that I am driving from point A to point B. I think I might have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Now I can keep driving blindly and most likely get even more lost. Or I can stop and check my map, and if I have gone off course, all I need to do is change my course to get back on track towards point B.

I think the secret is to learn to be kind to yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
