There are women and men on this site. Wow, don't know what to tell you about that!!! I know I am regular within a day since starting my preop diet!! Congratulations on your banding..both of you. Maybe someone else will chime in with why you are having a period again. What did the office say? Deanna

I was also banded yesterday. Thank goodness for Oxycodone. My port site is very sore and when I try to get out of bed, wow, does it burn! I was not very hungry at the hospital, and stayed overnight in the Short Stay Unit. I, too, started my period yesterday, and I had just had it 2 weeks ago - amazing what stress does to a person. My abdomen on the port side is pretty swollen. I was not bothered by gas pains post-op. My husband took me for a walk shortly after I woke up in my room. I did alot of walking and I think it really helped alot. The nurses and nurses' aides were phenomenal, I had wonderful care. I plan to send the unit a basket of fruit, to show my appreciation. My surgeon is Dr. Renee Wolf, and she is currently 8.5 months pregnant with her second child. So far, I have been able to tolerate eating the mushies. Has anyone experienced back pain when eating? I am not sure if it is referred pain from the stomach, or a combination of the position I was placed in during surgery. I can't believe it's all behind me now - I had waited over a year for my surgery. No2

I had extreme back pain when I woke up from surgery. I attribute it to my position during surgery. Anyone have a lot of gas? My stomach rumbles almost constantly?

Hi All

WAY TO GO RACHEL!!

As for the back pain - it can be "referred" pain from the laparoscopic gases they use to inflate your belly as well as some tugging on the diaphragm/liver....it lasted about a week but without another thought it was totally gone!!!

Go gently...

Terry

Gas!! That is an understatement. I feel like I am going to explode!! And I get up and walk around a lot. I've done a few light chores, a load of laundry, dishes. Cooked dinner for my husband and Son.. My port side is extremely tender. I hope I will be up to going back to work on Monday.

Congrats to all those that are newly banded....You should all be feeling great in a few days...the gas will go away and then you will just be sore...BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE DOCTORS ORDERS.....DON'T EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING THAT YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO....TAKE IT EASY FOR THE FIRST FEW DAYS....YOU ARE IN THE HEALING STAGES AND IT IS IMPORTANT TO LET YOUR INSIDES HEAL....

Hey AReelady! If I could figure out how to chat LOL it certainly would help. Doctor office just said it was a coincidence, just another to go thru again )o:

On a Happy Note 4 days and have lost 10 pounds, of course I still starving. Doctors office said its very unusual to be hungry this soon, most lapbanders dont' start being hungry until week 2, anyone else hungry right from the start?

virginia,

I am glad I am not the only one who has issues with the gas. That was worse than the pain. I am up moving around more and that is helping some. I have to go back to work on Tuesday, hopefully all will be OK by then.

gas is hurting me really bad, i was banded may 23, and i noticed alot of the banders have used gas-x, but my dr. never mentioned it, how often did you take it and i was wondering if it would hurt to go ahead and use it since my dr. is out of office till tuesday to ask, also, my incisions just over night swelled some, only three of them, but enough to scare me, any others out there ever have this happen, and i still cant get any Protein, the shakes taste awful, and make me want to throw up, and if i put it into food, thats my frist taste, and makes me not want to eat. any suggestions, thanks, good luck all banders....................

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
