Gastric bypass - how about you? Are using Dr Hahn also? My dad had Gastric Bypass with Dr Hahn 7 years ago. He says Dr Hahn saved his life. My dad was 70 when he had the surgery.

Kaiser Fremont drama: 2 years RNY, chronic anemia and malabsorption. In NY, I was getting Iron infusions every five months. Now in California, the bariatric doctor from Fremont is saying that she doesn't order the labs, my PCP has to. The PCP says it's a bariatric thing and she's not getting involved. In the meantime, I'm sitting here 9 months since my last infusion, 89 degree weather, shivering with a sweater. How do I resolve this, and what are my rights as a bariatric patient to get the basic lifetime care that I deserve?

I am so sorry this is happening. I am currently a patient at Kaiser Fremont.

I'm in Livermore.

Did u find a support group out Livermore way?

If you click the drop down menu under Forums and highlight Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forum, you'll see Gastric Sleeve support groups.... then under go to Local support groups...there they have lots of people talking by where they live. I found a lot of people from Washington (where I live) You can probably find Bay area folks too :)

Anyone post op who uses BART? I'm trying to get an idea about recovery and going back to work. I'm not sure if BART is conducive to getting back to work after a couple of weeks. I go from Pleasant Hill to Montgomery. Door to door is about 1 hour 20 each way.

Hi I met you at the seminar! I actually contacted my PCP on Monday and she sent the referral already, but I honestly don't know where! Good luck with your process!

Hey! I contacted my PCP and he told me he prefers the SSF center. I told him to go ahead and send my referral there since i couldn't find any specific information... Did you get a call yet?

Yes! I emailed my PCP on Tuesday, she sent the referral on Wednesday and SSF called me yesterday. I have orientation on Tuesday (they have orientations every Tuesday) and meeting with the surgeon on Friday! You?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
