Few hours post-op

Recommended Posts

So I'm sitting in my hospital bed sipping on chicken broth and wondering if I made the right decision. The pain is pretty bad I can't really walk yet and my throat hurts. I know this is an exciting subject for everyone so if any of you would like to know in detail what have gone through thus far please ask me while it is fresh in my mind

You'll be feeling good in no time! I'm 11 days post op and the first 2 days are uncomfortable. You've got this!

My first couple of days were bad too. My throat and mouth were so dry in the hospital. Drink Water if you can, suck on ice chips or ask for a popsicle. It does get better. I am 2 weeks post op.

I'm really trying to psych myself up for the negative feelings of the first few days. Even though I know you are feeling bad, you are post-op and I would do almost anything to be in your shoes right now.

The night was OK. I only took pain medication one time. My tummy feels like I did 2000 scrunches without stopping and with stretching before hand. Also I didn't know that with all sleeve surgeries they will put a draining tube. It drains blood and intusions? I'm not sure what that means. When I came out anastasia I was in pain Alot! But then I am given pain medication demeral every 4 hours and Darvocet every 6. It makes drowsy. I have walked about 4 times. I have urinated about 6 times. No Bm yet and no gas, but burping. I don't have much gas pain in the shoulders. I'm glad bc it was really bad with the Lapland. I will go home this morning???? so ready for a shower I feel ????????????????????:-/ I. Will keep u all updated.

I was surprised but I did not have a drain tube. I went home yesterday afternoon, the 31st. Feeling really weak, tired, and sore all over. Wondering what I've done.

Had Surgery at Memorial Hermann South East in Houston, Tx. Did anyone else get the fashionable Wrap-Around Girdle to wear during the day? It seems to hold everything in place.

I guess prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. I was absolutely fine from the moment I work up. Mouth was a little dry but sucking on ice chips was enough to take care of that. No pain, no gas, zero complications, no mood swings or crying jags. I felt great and each day gets better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
