Actual surgical procedure question

Recommended Posts

I was googling to see where exactly the incisions are for RNY-laparoscopic. Two things 1)googling such a thing isn't for the faint of heart, I saw some actual surgery pictures I wish I hadn't ???? 2) I see where the actual incisions are made and I am pleased because for some reason I thought they were much lower, towards the pelvic region.

I have an odd/kind of gross question though, figure here's as good of a place to ask!

The lowest incisions (towards your pelvic region) do they go straight through all of the belly fat? Or do they lift/prop/tape up the belly and incise under the fold?

When I had my last baby they had to tape up my belly for the surgery. *MORTIFYING!!!* because she was telling me what she was going to do and why "gotta tape this big blob o' fat up so we can get your baby out" of course it doesn't matter because I assume they will put me under, before positioning my body. But then again who knows?

Im starting to get jittery in case you can't tell ;)

1/19/15 surgery date!

After literally looking to check where my incisions were, my lowest one is about 2 inches above my bellybutton, if that helps ;)

Just think after January you will never have to worry about that ever happening again. Cause you will be SKINNY!

I watched a video of a laparoscopic gastric bypass too and you are right, not for the faint of heart! Fortunately, I didn't watch it until after my surgery!

My lowest incision is also right above the belly button so no need to tape anything up. I was completely out of it before they did anything to me in the OR, so I wasn't aware of any lifting of my gown, draping or anything that would have embarrassed me.

I would much rather have incision marks than rolls of skin. Think of them as battle scars and remember that you won the fight!

My lowest incision is to the left of my belly button.

My lowest incision is above my belly button. I already had 1 under my belly button from my gallbladder being removed. I had 3 c sections. Only with my last one did they tape up my big flabby belly :-) it was soo embarrassing for me! I think with this surgery though, they will "blow up" your stomach with gas. No need for taping, pretty sure.

Are the laparoscopic procedures done with a Davinci robot?

I haven't heard of robots doing these surgeries. I know what you're speaking of though ;-) I had an actual surgeon :-)

Most large hospitals, centers of excellence and bigger surgery centers will utilize the davinci.

That's why all our incision site looks exactly the same, etc etc

Yes the surgeons does the surgery but may use the robotic technology for a portion of the procedure...

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
