New bander in IL looking for a band buddy

Recommended Posts

Still trying to get back on track. Will have to go back to basics again and start writing things down. Next step find a new primary care Dr. that will be in my corner with me not against me. She was aganist my surgery from the start but came around when I got off all my meds. Just seen her for muscle and joint fatigue and here we go again threw the surgery in my face. Reminding me Its because of surgery that all this is happening and now I'm stuck the rest of my life with problems. So now I feel everytime I have a problem it will be because of surgery. I need a new Dr who will be in my corner. Wish surgeon was primary care. There's always going to be those people on the sidelines waiting to see me fail but I have to prove them all WRONG, and stop letting them get in my head. Have apt with Surgeon in 2 weeks for 9 month check and am up 10 lbs he will not be happy. Day one of back to basics. Yeah!

Hey everyone!

I haven't been on here in awhile, but I saw this thread so I thought I would write a quick comment. I am from Villa Grove originally and live in Tolono now. I had my surgery at the Illinois Bariatric Center almost 3 years ago, and they host a support group at their Champaign location on the 1st Thursday of every month (so tonight) at 6:00. It helped me a lot when I was first starting out, and I plan to go tonight as well. Just thought I would let you know in case you wanted to in person support too!

My primary doctor is with the Cadence Physician's Group at Central DuPage Hospital. I do just about everything out of CDH and have always been happy. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
