Gastric sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery December 17th.. and since then I have lost 19 pounds. 6 pounds pre op and 13 pounds post op. It has not been too bad, but a MAJOR lifestyle change. I cannot wait until I get over the pain of the surgery so I can feel somewhat normal. I go back to the doctor January 8th and a pray to God that my Vitamin levels are ok. I have been getting all my supliments down but the Protein is sooo hard. I am sooo glad I had the surgery. I am.so ready to become healthy and stay that way!

Congratulations! Recovery can be pretty hard - but you'll probably wake up one day and feel perfectly normal :)

I got my breakdown out of the way last week :). Fortunately, water isn't a problem for me. I was having some issues and got scanned for a leak yesterday and no leak :). But back to Clear Liquids and skim milk for 2 more weeks. Hungry! And pain in the largest incision. Other than that - doing good. I completely understand how you feel - but the worst is behind us! We should stay in touch :) PM me and I'll give my email if you want.

Hi both, I also had surgery on 17th! Looks like you're both doing well, I've lost 18lbs now but only 3lbs post op. Was hoping for a bit more but can see a massive difference in the mirror so am happy with that.

I've not had a melt down yet but everyday is a learning curve and I also find it hard to get Water down!

Good luck!

@@surrey1987 thank you so much and congrats to you! How is your pain from the surgery? I was starting to feel somewhat normal then the pains started again but I started my cycle so I am wondering if that has something to do with it! Not anything too bad!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
