Had mine Dec 22, 2014

Recommended Posts

I'm Andrew, from Newburgh, NY. I am 6 feet and weighed 416 pounds when I went in on the 22nd. It is now Saturday, I've been out of the hospital since Wednesday, and feeling amazing! I am now 398 and down a couple of inches already. I haven't been under 400 in 2-3 years and my clothes are already getting loose!

My doctor was Dr. Edward Pucci, the eldest of 3 brothers who have various offices in Goshen, NY, Suffern, NY and Ridgewood, NJ. The surgery was performed at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, NJ and went flawlessly. I had immense sharp gas pains the first 2 days, and once that subsided, have felt great since. I'm walking briskly, and I'm feeling younger everyday! I'm looking forward to meeting some other people here, and I would love to help others, and as a newbie, I'm sure I will have many questions along the way myself.

Woo Hoo, Andrew, CONGRATS! Sounds like you are doing great! So glad to hear it. I am due to go in for surgery in a few days (Dec 31st). It will be exciting to see where we are at this time next year! Best.

Congratulations and welcome to the board. I've found Bariatricpal to be a great place to get answers and be kinda therapeutic.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
