Where's the restart button?! Please help! :)

Hello, friends!! Does anyone else feel like they would like to get back on track? If so, let me know! I had my surgery on February 20th and have officially lost 50 pounds, plus the 20 pre-op. Right now I'm 195 (I creeped back up slightly during Christmas, but only by 3 or 4!!! :o) and I would like to possibly be at the very least 185 or 180 by my appointment at the end of January. Preferably more. Is this possible/healthy/realistic? The only exercise I'm getting is weekly horseback riding (yes, it is a sport!), in which I burn about 700 to 800 calories, and the occasional bike ride.

I feel like I'm falling back into old habits, which really scares me. I need to get back on track!! Please help!!! :)

Of course losing 10 pounds by the end of January is possible. Probably not easy, but definitely possible. You didn't say much about your current eating habits, but you could definitely bump up the exercise. You can do this. The holiday eating is over. Get rid of the treats that are still in the house, recommit yourself and go for a walk. You have got this!

Why not just get back in the groove and behave the way you need to behave to continue to lose weight and get healthier

Why even think about crash-dieting?

That never feels healthy to me.

It just feels like I'm losing weight to impress someone else on an artificial timetable.

YUCK!

Suggested restart by walking yourself back through the post op eating. Start with Clear Liquids then progress forward. It is after all how you started out after WLS and could be used as a "reboot" getting you back to focus on nutrition and priority of Protein first.

I agree with what the others have said. I've done a couple "re-starts" along the way. I found that doing them helped (1) eliminate any bad habits I picked back up of snacking, portion sizes, etc., and (2) gave my sleeve a little rest that seemed for whatever reason to help increase the feeling of restriction when the re-start was done.

Basically what I've done is either go back on a couple (2-3) days of liquids (Protein shakes, sugar-free clear liquids), or start with liquids and work my way a day or two at a time through each of the post op stages (liquids, pureed, soft, full foods). I am actually starting with this tomorrow to kick these 3 pounds that I gained over the holidays.

It has always served me well to "get back to basics" when I start to feel old habits sneaking back in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
