Post-op swelling - common?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 19 Dec so am 8 days post op. I took before pics on 17 Dec and took pics today and compared and my stomach is bigger now than before the sleeve. The swelling seems to be around the lower part of my stomach. I read the swelling usually lasts 5-7 days. I know its still early days but wondering if anyone else experienced this kind of swelling and how long it lasted! Thanks :)

I haven't been sleeved yet 1/6 is my date. Everyone heals different. Did you have a hernia repaired or gallbladder issues? Just relax get lots of rest I am sure each day gets better. And congrats on the new YOU!!! ????

My belly was very swollen...looked like I was pregnant. I couldn't fit in my jeans and had to wear elastic-waist pants for two weeks. It was probably a month before the swelling was totally gone.

It took mine at least 5 or 6 days to go down.

I agree.. I didn't need a seat belt extender on the way down, on the way back I *HAD* to have it. My pants stayed tight for two weeks, then I dropped 2 sizes over night.

This is also my consern. I am on my 3rd day post op and pretty swollen in the abdomen area. Triple play, band removed, hiatal hernia repair, and gastric sleeve. I had a CT scan yesterday - the day after surgery to rule out a hernia at the primary Trocar site, It turns out to just be Fluid build up. I have also heard that large hematomas can be common. I am otherwise doing well. I feel a bit confused about taking pills. only 1 Oz of Water every 20 minutes makes it difficult to get the pills down. Oh well, these are small issues to deal with, and helpful to know they are normal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
