Post op surgery on 12/17

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on the 17th and have moved on to solid foods. What I need is advice on when to schedule eating. I always seem to have a hungry growl and if I let it go to long until I eat, it makes it hard to differentiate between hungry and full. I am having trouble getting all the Water and protien in that is required. What I need from someone is a simple food and water plan so I can follow it and achieve the food, water, Protein goals I need to achieve for optimal success. Also I dont feel like I have lost a pound everything feels the same, clothes fit wise. Any advice would be wonderful. Just to let you know prior to surgery I had a horrible food and water schedule, as in I never ate or drank until my body said it needed it. I am 4' 11" 225 # pre surgery with a BMI of 40, doctor watched my food and water intake for a year and could not figure out why I am so heavy, and now I have moved on to post surgery and still have intake issues. Please help any advise would be wonderful

Thank you.

My surgery was on 12/19 and I am still on full liquid diet, but I eat every 3 hours or so. Your irregular eating may be behind your lack of weight loss. I have lost 8 pounds post op and 32 pounds pre-op. Once you establish schedule, your body will not hold on to everything you eat, because it doesn't know when the next nourishment is coming.

Once onto food, I ate about every two hours at first, just a few bites of cheese, yogurt, etc, with Protein Shakes a couple of times a day and Water throughout the day. It was tough. I had no appetite but would feel weak so knew I needed some calories. My stomach also felt weird, made crazy sounds, and I could not tell if it was hunger, I was going to be sick, or what. I think it's just the healing process. Now I eat 3 times a day (tiny portions) and snack on nuts and Protein. I am 3.5 months out. It's a weird ride but it works!

Thank you all for the reassurance and help. You are right I notice hunger growls and have improved my Fluid intake and eat small meals 3 times a day with two Snacks. My one issue is the morning I wake up famished, I am sure that will fix itself in time. I have no scale so I dont know what weight I have lost. Hoping for a good number on friday when I buy a scale excited about this journey

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
