Agree with don't stock up on anything. Your tastes are likely to change. Have enough to get you through the first week or two post op. After that you'll be well enough to shop for what sounds good, (probably nothing will sound good for a while btw).

Stay off the scale until your first post op appointment, then weigh no more or less than once per week. Don't let yourself get focused on the scale moving. You. Will. Stall. If you're only weighing once per week, it'll not be as noticeable. Besides, if the scale going down is your main motivation, what will keep you motivated to maintain the changes you worked so hard for when you hit goal?

When you "don't feel like"... whatever. Exercising, getting your Protein, taking your supplements, put your big girl panties on and remember you are an adult that made a decision to do the best thing for your health. Make a commitment to your own after care. Protein, getting enough calories, Vitamins, etc., these are PRESCRIPTIONS for you now. You wouldn't let your kid skip their medicine because they don't feel like taking it or don't like the way it tastes. Don't allow yourself to do that either.

Be kind to yourself. If you follow your team's instructions, you'll do fine. Set SMART goals around behaviors you can absolutely control. (Google SMART goals if you're unfamiliar) I will exercise x minutes per day x times per week. I will get x grams of protein. Not I will lose x # of pounds this week or be a size xx by some date. This is not really in your control, but your behaviors are.

Don't let yourself get thirsty. Dehydration is no joke. And if you have small children, find someone who can watch them reliably. They don't understand mommy's tummy really hurts.

Thank you all SO much for your tips! It helps significantly as I am less than 36 hours away from experiencing it all myself. Hard to grasp how much my life is about to change but all the suggestions and info helps!

I was sleeved February 3, 2014.

My advice is:

* to follow the instructions given to you by your surgeon and their team.

* take it easy.

* Don't try to overdo it.

* Listen to your body.

For the first couple of weeks there will be good days and days when you feel like crap. Key is to not overdo it.

I was sleeved October 30 2014. Just take it a day at a time. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. We all loose at our own pace. Your head will not catch up to your eyes. What I mean by that is right now I'm going thru a bit of depression. I know I lost weight and I see it SOME TIMES I still feel over weight which sucks hardcore.

Hope everything went well.

I bet you'll do great.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
