Jackie Pulleine 1 Posted December 27, 2014 Which funds have people used for gastric sleeve? I have heard about someone getting this done in Melbourne with no out of pocket expense? Any advice would be appreciated

mrs kaje 347 Posted January 20, 2015 I have seen a recent post about a surgeon in Brissie who doesn't charge over the gap (or something), so it's quite cheap. This would be using a health fund, obviously. Not sure what type of hospital it was in, though. It was in one of the other Australian sub-forums here, but can't remember where, sorry. NaomiAus 104 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm with HCF, and they cover Obesity surgery, I've met with my surgeon and my out of pocket expense will be under $4000. Not sure about places that don't charge but my cousin who had the sleeve didn't pay anything, but he was an extreme case and was covered through a university or something, I'm not quite sure. pinkie1 36 Posted May 28, 2015 I am with HCF and had the theatre cost's of surgery covered in a private hospital. I had to pay an out of pocket expense of $570 to the anaesthetist. all the pre surgery such as dietician and exercise physiologist psychologist and doc apps I had to pay myself which came to about $600, but if my health cover covered it would have been less. I had to pay an out of pocket expense to the surgeon himself of $3350, but this fee includes free appointments with his clinic for the rest of my life, and should something go wrong and I need further surgery it too will be free. My health insurance is $111 a month with a $450 hospital gap. if I were you I would go for the no gap and pay that little bit extra every month.
