I have seen a recent post about a surgeon in Brissie who doesn't charge over the gap (or something), so it's quite cheap. This would be using a health fund, obviously. Not sure what type of hospital it was in, though.

It was in one of the other Australian sub-forums here, but can't remember where, sorry.

I'm with HCF, and they cover Obesity surgery, I've met with my surgeon and my out of pocket expense will be under $4000. Not sure about places that don't charge but my cousin who had the sleeve didn't pay anything, but he was an extreme case and was covered through a university or something, I'm not quite sure.

I am with HCF and had the theatre cost's of surgery covered in a private hospital. I had to pay an out of pocket expense of $570 to the anaesthetist. all the pre surgery such as dietician and exercise physiologist psychologist and doc apps I had to pay myself which came to about $600, but if my health cover covered it would have been less.

I had to pay an out of pocket expense to the surgeon himself of $3350, but this fee includes free appointments with his clinic for the rest of my life, and should something go wrong and I need further surgery it too will be free.

My health insurance is $111 a month with a $450 hospital gap. if I were you I would go for the no gap and pay that little bit extra every month.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
