Vabeachlady 37 Posted December 27, 2014 I've been having lots of nausea since my surgery. I'm not over eating but am having a really hard time getting Protein and liquids down, it makes the nausea worse. I'm wondering now if it has to do with the hiatal hernia repair that was done during my surgery. The dr. said I didn't need medicine for GERD because I wasn't having symptoms. I'm now thinking that what I have been thinking was nausea might actually be GERD presenting itself a little differently. I'm not having reflux just the horrible nausea. Anyone have issues with "nausea" after having hiatal hernia repair? What did you do?
Judy McGovern 4 Posted December 27, 2014 I also had a hernia fixed and my nausea is horrible all the time. I hate being nauseated anyway.
smiley922 447 Posted December 27, 2014 I had hiatal hernia repaired, and after surgery, they gave me the patch behind my ear 4 days, then a liquid antacid for two weeks, I have not had any nausea, though I still burp if I eat or drink too fast. Also, days after surgery I figured out that plain Water did not agree with me at all, it gave me liquid burps and stomach pain. had to drink Powerade zero or crystal light, been afraid to drink straight water ever since. AmyC65 34 Posted December 27, 2014 I am not having the same issues as you, but one thing I have learned is that we have to advocate for ourselves and listen to our bodies. I complained about heartburn feeling late afternoon everyday, so they doubled my omeprazole. It just kept on, though. And a few days that I forgot my omeprazole, I felt better than usual. I emailed Dr. and asked about pulling off omeprazole. She said OK, I could try it. Turns out, that heavy dosage was making me sick. I ended up putting myself back on half of my original dosage (which is 1/4 of what they bumped me up to!) and I feel great. She thought I was crazy, but no one knows my body better than I do. If you suspect you need meds, get some over-the-counters and try for a week or so.
Vabeachlady 37 Posted January 1, 2015 Well, the nausea has a completely different cause. Saw my surgeon today. Turns out I was eating too much...could of sworn I saw in my papers that I could eat 2 oz during the soft solids days. WRONG!!! Also, too much food (and accompanying nausea) was making it hard to drink my liquids so I was dehydrated. Got 2 liters IV today, have to go back to liquids for 2 days then basically start again. Still hard getting liquids down. But I HAVE to or will end up in the hospital.
