jensjourney82 7 Posted December 26, 2014 I was sleeved on December 17, and I have been on this liquid diet since December 3. I have lost approx. 24lb since the 3rd, I see the doctor on Monday for my 2 week follow up, and I am struggling with not eating food at all. I am hoping that my doctor clears me for the soft food diet...I have been extremely emotional as well....is anyone else having or had this problem? If so how did you get through it? Babbs 14,681 Posted December 27, 2014 About the second or third day home from surgery, my husband was fending for himself for dinners (for obvious reasons) and he made himself a bagel Breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and ham. He sat down to eat it, and as soon as I smelled it, I burst into tears. I was so head hungry I just couldn't take all the food being eaten around me. Needless to say, the first couple weeks are hard, and it's very normal to be emotional and yes...HUNGRY. The good news? It doesn't last forever and you will soon be eating solid foods and the hunger feeling will subside a great deal. Hang in there! This too shall pass
Newme2015yes 5 Posted December 27, 2014 I was sleeved the 15 of Dec., so I'm right there with you. I've also been emotional, and am guessing it has to do with the surgery. One thing that's helped me is to have really tasty Soup 'creamed' by pureeing Soup and adding some creamed soup to it. I sip about 4 ounces and that really is helping. athena3127 199 Posted December 28, 2014 Remain calm and stay focused you can do this...yes it is hard. But just think in 3 months you'll be so excited and have an entirely new look and new challenges to battle. One step forward started the journey. Just keep on keeping on hugs of support! Tp722 0 Posted December 28, 2014 I had surgery on the 18th and have been counting down the days until my appointment on the 30th. Christmas day was the hardest when my favorite meats were being served. I struggled, and the thought of broth makes me sick. I have not been too emotional, but by the third trip to the grocery store where everything looked good (even the foods I don't like), I told my husband he was on his own in there. Hang in there. Only another day to go!
aclinton16 32 Posted December 28, 2014 OK, SO I thought it was just me. Because I'm 5 days out and I find myself hungry. My doc stats with full liquids so I do the Soups cottage cheese yogurt, Jello etc. So this hungry OFTEN feeling shall pass? Is that what I'm hearing? I hope so because I was beginning to believe the surgery didn't work for me...Lol
Rosebuzzzz 8 Posted December 29, 2014 I am 5 days out. I am also on full liquids but it does not include cottage cheese. My kingdom for some cottage cheese ! I have been living on cream of chicken Soup with Protein, milk and curry. The other thing that is working for me is plain Kiefer with fake sugar and a dash of Mio flavor. 1/2 cup at a time does not seem like enough. I can do 1/2 cup easy. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 29, 2014 First week I was cool. Sip, sip, walk back and forth in the house or go outside and walk to the corner and back then take a nap. Second week I was stir crazy and ready to toss those shakes out the window! I wasn't emotional just restless. Hang in there, it will be over soon!
Sassafrassa 33 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had a few emotional spots and I was sleeved on Dec 19 but have coped better than expected. I find the thing that gets me is watching people take a big 'normal' bite of a food I cant eat! But it bothers me a little less each day. Even going to the super market is hard for me as you see things you want to try or cook, but you cant. Its all a learning process for us I guess. We just need to hang in there! It was music to my ears when my nutrionist told me I didnt have to force myself to drink Protein shakes!!! She said she was worried if I did I would just not eat or drink anything cos I would make myself sick. Looking at getting my Protein from other food and drinks. Will try Premier Protein shakes from costco though to see if i like them.
MrsMurky721 130 Posted December 30, 2014 I was sleeved on Decemeber 11th. I felt those hunger pains too!!! I'm so happy I'm not the only one! I swear it felt like genuine hunger! I was so aggravated! Aren't we supposed to not feel hunger? But a few days ago I realized that the hunger wasn't there anymore. That's also around the same time I was able to start getting more Protein and Water in so I don't know what it was but it's gone now. YAY!! Maybe everybody feels it the first few weeks or something? I have no idea! I'm still dealing with cravings for certain things but doing well overall and resisting. I'll tell you though, ice cold Water has never tasted so refreshing in my entire life! I don't know what it is, but water tickles my pickle now! We can do this! WOOT!
ready2livenow 19 Posted December 30, 2014 Yes. I have this problem, too. The head hunger gets to me sometimes and I become emotional. Almost like I'm grieving my old life and using food as a coping mechanism. Now that I can't eat, having to deal with all the changes without using food is difficult. When I feel overwhelmed, I come on here and read posts of success stories and others who are struggling so I can relate and gives me motivation. I've had a bunch of temptations when I'm with my friends who are eating pizza and Christmas Cookies and drinking pop. It makes me realize how food is the center of all the activities my friends and I partake in. I've thinking of going to see a professional to talk about all these emotions and situations and process them. My friend who works at an addiction facility has told me that many people who have had wls have shifted their food addiction to other things drugs or alcohol. I want to have a healthy life and a healthy relationship with food. It'll take work, but I know wls was the first step to get things check.
