Tighter from hunger??

Recommended Posts

Typically my morning at work are way too chaotic to think about eating.. and before work, I'm barely rolling out of bed, so I don't have time to eat before going in.. Even pre-band, my first food is normally lunch time, and I don't pause to think about if I'm hungry before then.

Well today some reason.. (I've been taking phen---diet pill for past week or so), I didn't take my diet pill, got real busy, and started to get hungry. Real hungry. I don't always take lunch break either, I work through lunch and eat something in the office (if I decide to eat). Since taking the phen, I don't get hungry till dinner time, so I've only eaten after 5pm.

But today like I said, I was soo hungry, I was growling and having severe cramps from being hungry! It was weird.. so afterwork we went by Wendy's on the way home, and I got a chili. While eating it, I felt like everything was struggling to go down. I was so hungry it made me not hungry... (I have had that sensation before), but I was trying to eat a little so I'd stop feeling sick.. and it felt like my band was tight! It felt like I was taking huge bites (honest, I wasn't!!), so 3-4 bites later I just stopped trying.

I haven't felt my band 'tighten' from being hungry before, anyone else have this happen??? Or know why?

It might have just been from stress. I have had times that my stomach is growling and I am so hungry I can't take it. When I finally take a few bites, I'm full and satisified. It doesn't make sense, but we have to remember our bands are really fickle!

It happens to me too. I couldn't tell you why, my best guess is that the stomach starts grumbling, and producing acid, and maybe you get a little swollen or something? No clue.

On another note though, if you aren't eating anything all day until dinner, are you making sure you are eating enough?

Yeah, I keep a daily journal thing, I have been on average 1,200 calories, the past week around 900 due to I've been forgetting to eat my 5:30. I typically eat at 5:30 and then 8:30. I also have a frappucino w/protein powder for my b'fast.

Yeah, I have that issue. I have to be careful not to get too hungry or I'll get into that place where I'm *starving* and can't eat. Ugh.

And a side note...Frappacino? The kind from Starbucks full of sugar? Or are you making your own non-sugar version???? Cuz if you are having sugar for Breakfast you are going to be way hungry all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
