8 months out & my gas is still going strong. Lol. I walk a lot and no one thing is the cause. When I drink or eat I can still hear the gurgling. Soup or cold Water. Slow or regularly. Some days I'll hear it while eating & others I hear it while sitting watching tv. About 3 weeks ago I had a cold & drank nothing but soup & the noises my stomach were almost embarrassing. Lucky for me I'm not one who cares but I'm concerned if anyone else goes through this. I can't burp anymore since surgery... flatulence since surgery has always been hard to release but I'm sure not to hold it in. No pain just the bloated feeling from time to time. What's going on in there?

Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a group of drugs whose main action is a pronounced and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid production.

I'm only 4 days out but can't burp at all either hoping this goes away

I still can't burp. I used to get out really long hard ones before but now I can only inhale & hope the gas comes up. My doctor told me back at my 3 months check in that some people don't get it back & some do. It's been this long but I'm still hopeful.

You might benefit with taking a PPI such as omeprazole (generic Prilosec). It may help with the gas & gurgling. I take 40mg daily and I have no gurgling and all other body functions are normal.

My ex sil had bypass and idk if she at wrong but the gas that she readily and frequently and with no shame was horrendous. That was one of the reasons I had VSG. Oh my it's been years since of seen her. Being in a closed vehicle was torture. She farted majorly every 5 minutes. A 2 hr drive?!!!

Well I have plenty of gas but mine doesn't stink. And I have to really push like I'm on the toilet at times to release em. Not so often as 5 minutes but at least once every 2 to 3 hours. The gurgling is what gets on my nerves. People ask am I ok and I'm like yep. Lol.

Thanks. I go to see him next month. I'll be sure to ask about it. I mentioned it before but I guess he wrote it off as post op gas. See like I just got up for work & I haven't eaten nor am I hungry but this damn noise is going. If it stops it's probably because I stopped paying attention.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
