mroth28 23 Posted December 26, 2014 Hi I was sleeved on 12/15. I am having a tough time getting in all of my Protein and Water. I usually get a 3oz shake in the morning ( 21g). Then I try to drink propel water ( regular water is hard for me to drink) I can get about 32-35 oz a day. Then either a shake or broth with unflavored protein. However my mother bought me the Isopure drink that has 40g of protein in it. It is 20oz, so I am drinking it to fulfill my protein and liquid but I am wondering if drinking that all day is considered grazing? I don't want to get into a bad habit. I see my surgeon on the 30th and then should move to purée foods but if drinking this is ok I want to continue. Any advise is greatly appreciated!
sunflowerchild 146 Posted December 26, 2014 Drinking all day is fine in my opinion. The term grazing is traditionally used to refer to consuming food. I know when I was that close to post op I had to drink all day long to stay hydrated.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) Yes drinking all day, especially this early on is fine. It's when you start moving towards regular food you want to make sure you keep it to either 3 meals a day or 5 smaller meals a day. What you don't want to do is mindlessly nibble here and there all day. Initially I had to do the 5 small meals because I got full really quickly, but then was hungry 3 hours later. I find I am now doing well with 3 meals a day. I use the rest of the time to drink Water.< /p> Edited December 29, 2014 by BLERDgirl
truckeelove 2 Posted December 29, 2014 Give GENEPRO protien try (available on Amazon). It's got 30 grams of Protein in 1 tablespoon and is easily mixed into any liquid hot or cold. It's been my lifesaver! I don't really like "milky" Protein Shakes, but can mix it into 5-6oz Vitamin Water Zero or Crystal Light without changing the flavor or the texture. Do that 3x a day and you're covered!
alwaysvegas 702 Posted December 29, 2014 Grazing has more to do with giving in to "head hunger" and eating when you're not physically hungry. So soon after surgery it can be difficult to meet the liquid/protein requirements, so many of us had to work on our Protein and liquids all day. Now that I'm back on solids, I still prefer to have four to six small (4oz) meals throughout the day rather than three. That's just what works for me and keeps me feeling pleasantly full all day. I found that solids keep me feeling full MUCH longer than liquids or purees. If I do feel the need to eat more than those meals, I have to stop and really think if I'm truly hungry (perhaps I exercised more than usual or missed a meal) or if it's just head hunger (because I'm stressed or need to take an antacid). Hope that helps!
anaarnaiz 6 Posted December 29, 2014 @@mroth28 that's good you are just starting for me was difficult to drink Water at the beginning so I mixed with Gatorade and help me a lot when you start your purée diet you will increase a lot your liquids you will see! On the stage you are I was drinking Protein and after I was drinking water with Gatorade every second a little bit to get used to it, try it... Good luck
