I was reading a post where someone had asked about Pork rinds. They listed the nutritional info and it had around 9-10g Protein. Then another poster said that isn't "good" protein.

What is "good" or "bad" protein? I want to make sure if I eat something that has protein listed that it counts towards my protein goal.

You want "lean" Protein as much as possible. I was told to stay away from hot dogs, deli meats, bacon, pork, ham, that sort of thing. Probably shouldn't have steak very often either. Mostly chicken and turkey and fish and Beans, that sort of thing (and also cottage cheese and yogurt are good).

But, interestingly, it isn't just people who had surgery that should avoid these other Proteins. If you do some reading about the nitrates (or is it nitrites?) in these Proteins like hot dogs, etc. you will read that they are really bad for you in so many ways).

Thanks for the reply. I'll read into them.

Aren't they fried and full of preservatives? You may find you don't care for them much any more. Your tastes may change a lot and you'll crave leaner lighter fare. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
