Cold Feet....Nerves...All of the above! :-(

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is tomorrow at 1pm. I am so nervous and JUST now questioning my decision. I had a friend stop by the day before yesterday that gave me the whole "you don't need that surgery." talk. Then a family member called and said "hard work at the gym is what you need" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Not helping. I know that I will move forward with the surgery. I know my struggle and am in good hands with a great doctor. I just wish there was more understanding and support for the choices I am making.

Breathing through the nerves and will continue to remind myself why I made this decision.

Good luck tomorrow and remember that many people do not have all the facts when they judge our decisions. Believe in yourself and in your doctor....you are going to be fine. And dont forget to continue breathing!

I hear you. I think a lot of people eat badly and put on 10 lbs, then go back to "normal" and lose it and assume that it's the same thing for everyone. The reality is that obesity is nothing like an extra 10 or 20 lbs and that working hard at the gym, or eating healthfully, or any number of things just isn't enough. If it were, most of us wouldn't be here! Just nod and smile and ignore the naysayers--they don't have to live in your skin.

Good luck today! I'll be there in just over 2 weeks... :)

My surgery is in 3 days. I am also feeling the cold feet and not so much as questioning my decision, but pondering why some people think the way they do. I feel support from my family and some friends, but I have only told a few friends. I don't feel like its everybody's business. I feel that by limiting whom I told about it that sort of protected me from peoples opinions, because the people I did tell I was able to explain the rationale for my decision and they understood and are in support of it.d Good luck with your surgery. You will do great!

First day home since surgery on Friday. Recovery is going well. Definitely struggling with the swollen feeling I have in my belly. Trying to get fluids in my any way I can. sugar free popsicles,Jello, broth, and propel.

Thank you so much for the support. I am new to this online community and you have made me feel comfortable and welcome :-)

Hope all are doing well! I am 5 days out of surgery and if it were not for the numbers on the scale dropping and the little pulling in my belly if I drank too much ... I wouldn't believe that I even had surgery. Keep going all and stay encouraged! Sip, walk... Take it easy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
