7 days Post op cravings and tiredness

Recommended Posts

Hello All

I'm 7 days Post op and I'm fighting my cravings. I still feel like I can eat way more then I'm supposed to and I'm scared. I've been able to eat about 6 ounces of Soup and yogurt and apple sauce. My nutritionist says 4-6 ounces but I don't get that full feeling I just stop causr I know I'm supposed to. And I can't seem to regain my strength. I get tired very easy. Any suggestions are appreciated

I'm seven days post opt too, and I am on 2 oz for meals. It really surprises me that you have the ability to hold that much, I was told only 8 oz total ever....like 9 months down the road.

I am fighting cravings, but mainly because I have sat through 2 Christmas dinners chomping on ice. I feel like I can eat, have the appetite for sure, but totally understand why I can't, so just hanging in there.

Hope it gets better

@@Gauge'sMom Where your prescribed and anti-acid? Sometimes that will help With hunger...sorry I can't help much with that because I don't have hunger anymore. Its normal to feel tired just work on that Water, Protein, and make sure your taking your Vitamins. You should feel better soon. You will probably start feeling the full sensation once your own regular food. Good luck!

I am a little confused. If you are 7-days post op, how are you eatting food? You should be only doing liquids for 2 weeks no food. You are healing and if food gets into those small little incisions, you could cause an infection.

How is it your doctor lets you eat food? As for the energy, I did not have any at all. I MADE myself move around (walk, clean house, etc). I would do 2 minutes, then take a break because I wanted to push myself, but realized I just had major surgery and my body needed to rest. It is MIND over MATTER.

Remember the doctors gave you a new tool to help with your food intake. They did not do surgery on your Brain, that you have to work on to make your new life work. It is just a new baby tummy you have, not a whole new you. Only you can make it work.

I'm day 3. My doctor starts us on mushies and purees while still in the hospital on Day 2. It definitely helps knowing I can eat something. In the hospital I had tuna with mayo before going home. Only about 2 oz. While eating I didn't feel full, but after I stopped eating I wasn't hungry to go back for more.

I've had yogurt, tuna and mashed potato so far with no problems.

Wow a variety of diets. I also had cream of chicken Soup 1 ounce and one of either yogurt or sugar free pudding. Following same diet at home. Get so full having a hard time with protien though get in maybe 20 grams. Christmas

I was able to pinch and taste everything from tsp of menudo to tamale. Just a pinch but did not feel I was missing out. Even had a kicking taste of my 12 yr old grandsons apple cream cheese cake, washed off the sweetness from I tiny piece of apple. Held it well. Problems with dizziness and fainting spells

I'm 11 days post op and my diet is also similar to gauge'smom. I also find that there is not much restriction for Soups and liquids. Makes it super easy to get my liquids in but it is a real reminder that this is a tool and I have to choose what I have. I am pretty sure if I went and got a 600 calorie drink at starbucks my stomach would tolerate it with no problem....all the more reason for me to remember all the hard work and time I have invested in this journey!! I do find though with yogurt or blended foods that I start feeling full barter 2 to 3 ounces. The drier the food the less I can have. If it has a high moisture content then about 3 ounces.

Definitely feel lucky though that when I am full I get a hiccup and heavy feeling. No vomiting so far...fingers crossed it stays that way!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
