samcat681 38 Posted December 26, 2014 So today is the start of my journey! I start my pre op diet for two weeks and my surgery is scheduled for January 8th. I am excited and nervous at the same time. The surgery itself doesn't bother me it's the change in lifestyle. I worry that I won't be successful but I try very hard to stay positive. This site is a great support an it keeps me focused on the prize. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I will keep everyone posted on my progress:)
Lawrence Baxter 22 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) Congratulations! Being aware of the possible challenges is probably the best first step. Spend these next two weeks reading pre-op and post-op entries and comments. While each person is different, you will be able to glean information that can be very beneficial in helping answer questions, identify challenges and develop strategies for success. I am now on DAY 4. I found that the pre-op diet [i had 2 Protein shakes per day with 4 oz of protein/veggie at a 3rd meal] and constantly had a glass of Water nearby to make certain I was re-learing how to stay hydrated was somewhat challenging. I had to have my "LAST" Mexican Breakfast, my last Whataburger, etc. Do your best to stick with the pre-op diet...including learning to eat in small bites; chewing 20-30 times before swallowing and taking time to have a meal. I also edited my refrigerator and pantry [gave to friends or donations] to make certain I was preparing my space to support the post-op diet. And, then I read, read and re-read during the two weeks before the procedure. Edited December 26, 2014 by Lawrence Baxter
