3 days post op and discouraged

Recommended Posts

My pain medication is not working and I am in pain. I can not get comfortable enough to get any sleep. I am feeling like I made a mistake but I know it will be ok once I start to feel better. My question is when do you start to feel like yourself again. I know everyone is different but I just want hear that it is worth it and that I will be ok.

It will be okay. Get to walking. Sometimes some of the pain is from the gas built up in your system. I didn't have any pain but I felt tired for the first week or so. I needed afternoon naps daily.

I am 6 days after my surgery and stopped taking pain meds yesterday, so everyone is different. I wore an elastic binder for the first few days. it still hurts to sneeze.

@@dawnlatonya I say 6 days. My pain meds didn't work worth a hoot either so my surgeon prescribed me a stronger narcotic that worked extremely well. Ask your DR! He/she may give you something better to help. No point in being in so much pain. Good luck!

Don I am 3 days post op as well the most pain I am suffering is due to the gas that will not pass I do have pain at two of my incision. But try sleeping up right meaning stack your pillows and sleep sitting up. This helps...try gas x for gas pain. U may need lots...lol as I have almost finished a box of 18 and only passed gas once, which was just a few minutes ago. I'm really looking forward to several more to get this pain out. Also walk, walk, walk.... what pain meds were u prescribed? Good luck to u, we r in this togethrt

The pain you are feeling is the GAS they put into your abdomen cavity before the surgery. You need to move in order to make this disappear. My pain was mostly in my shoulders.

Like you I felt I should have never done this but after finally feeling better, which for me was one month, I am glad I did this and it was the best decision ever. I for two weeks had Thrush, which made me now want to eat or drink. I had to make myself do this. Now that the Thrush is all gone, I drink like a fish and am able to eat 2 teaspoons of food every 2 hours.

I had significant pain for first 3-4 days, though I could sleep, but any movement would bring pain. I did not take pain medications beyond day 2, as it wasn;t making any difference anyway. Pain decreased considerably day 5 and beyond.

I finally felt human again about 6 days out. Slept in my lounge chair until 8 days out. It does get better....doesn't feel like it will but it does :) hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
