I've read a lot about the fact that left side incision pain usually lasts longer than anywhere else. Can anyone tell me about how long your pain lasted?

I was putting up with it ok until the mountain cedar pollen count went to extremely high. I now have the scratchy throat, stuffy nose, headache and a constant cough. My left side has gone from annoying to the point that I'm reconsidering getting off my pain medication.

I'm two weeks post-op.

At 4 weeks it was completely gone for me but it was more like a pulling sensation by week two and it would only bother me getting out of bed or bending. Take it easy. You'll get there. Now I don't even know I had incisions and i'm 8 weeks post.

Thanks, Beni, I was doing okay until I got caught by surprise by a coughing spasm. Now it hurts to move any at all. I'm going to contact the surgeon's office (all my care for the next year is supposed to be through them) about what kind of cough medicine I can take. It's going to be a miserable night!

Sorry you are feeling so bad Mommabird!

For me the pain was bearable within 5 days. I was off pain meds almost immediately. I would definitely contact your surgeons office and see if they have any advice for you.

I've been cleared to take some tussin DM and the one dose I've had so far is really helping. My daughter picked up some sugar free liquid benadryl and cough drops. I may just survive this!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
