Tough Tome Eating!

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 month's post op. Went to New York over Christmas. I had a terrible time eating out. I my son took me out for lobster which I thought would be fine. I. Felt sick for nearly two hours. Will it always be like this? He doesn't know about the surgery so it was really difficult. Advice please?

I'm 3 months out and still having a tough time too. I had a tiny piece of turkey and a little mac and cheese for Christmas dinner and threw it all up and felt horrible. Sometimes I can eat something and the next time I try, it makes me sick.

I'm also 3months as of the 24th and I am really having a hard time eating.. There are days i can tolerate chicken then they next time I vomit.. It gets frustrating sometimes.. I've lost 53 pounds, but I think it's because I throw up a lot.. I have an appt on 1/8 maybe the doctor can help me figure this out..

So far I'm not having any difficulties eating out. I would suggest that when you eat out you keep the food simple. Baked chicken, steamed lobster, etc... You may have to ask the wait staff to tell the chef limits seasonings. Heavier foods like mac & cheese may be too challenging.

I eat out often, but when I do I generally stick to baked or grilled chicken or fish. Or if the food is wet cooked, I make sure it isn't too fatty. Although my sleeve is very forgiving, I try not to challenge it too much.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
