ANXIOUS2LOSE 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Could someone please explain to me the reason for not drinking 15min before a meal, and 45 min. after?? This has been a real concern and struggle for me!!! :help: It is hard to stop something you have been doing forever, but might be a little more willing once I know the reasoning or logic behind it Banded 2/22/07 Start weight 257/Current weight
loco 0 Posted May 22, 2007 The fluids can push the food through quicker. If it does, you don't get full, your food goes through quicker and you get hungry and eat more.
tonya66 13 Posted May 22, 2007 Also, the pouch is small, it cannot hold the food and the liquid. My doctor said I could drink right up until the time I eat, but some doctors say not too, because there might be Fluid in your pouch when you eat, therefore, pushing the food thru. Also I was told, eating and drinking can overfill the pouch and cause it to stretch - which we don't want. have tried to eat and drink a few times, and it hurt like heck for me, caused me to slime - so it is uncomfortable for me to do it, so I don't. juliegeraci 7 Posted May 22, 2007 I agree with both posts. You need to make sure the pouch can hold the solids down first. If you wash it through you are defeating the purpose of the pouch. Also, you can PB if you aren't careful by adding Fluid to the food inside the patch. Both ways, it is not a good idea.
klutzyazhel 0 Posted December 1, 2008 Ok, how come I can't drink 15 minutes before and 2 hours after? why is yours only 45 mins???
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted December 1, 2008 Ok, how come I can't drink 15 minutes before and 2 hours after? why is yours only 45 mins??? Each surgeon seems to have his/her own spin on this. Mine requires that we don't drink 15 min before, during, or 15 min after meals, and meals are not to last longer than 30 minutes. I suggest you discuss the timing with your doctor so you can understand his/her reasoning.
gentylwind 1 Posted December 1, 2008 Mine is 15 before 30 after. And yes, its so you eat less and thus lose weight. Drinking with a meal flushes the food through faster, allowing you to eat more and hampering weight loss.
