Hello all.. So I was sleeved on July 25 in Mexico! When I started my journey I was 336 today I'm 251 which is awesome! I have only told a handful of people.. And only two family members! The rest of my family is inquiring how I'm losing my weight! I have told them high Protein low carb and smaller portions! But im starting to feel like I should just tell the truth... Now my question is, have any of you come clean after fibbing about it, and how was the reaction? I'm worried that they will be mad at me for not being truthful! Some insight would be great!! Merry Christmas!!

Withholding info is not the same as lying. You don't have to lie. You just don't have to tell everything you know. If your circle of family and friends is judgemental, I would wait until the weight has been off a couple of years.

You don't have to tell anyone, but what a Christmas surprise! You have done the most beneficial thing for yourself and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I, though, have told everyone, as I think more people need to know about the sleeve...it is a wonderful thing! I think it would be cool to "let the cat out of the bag"...but you should when you feel the time is right. You know your family, and you can surmise how they will react...but I cannot imagine they will be so proud of you! Good luck, keep up the good losing! haha...Merry Christmas!

I told everyone from the beginning. I felt too guilty about fibbing not to. But I was on the other side for two people that had kept their WLS a secret. The first was a longtime college buddy that had Lapband 6 years ago. We live in different states so I didn't actually see her losing weight. But we talk a lot and She didn't tell me about her Surgery for a year. I was kind of hurt that she didn't feel like she could confide in me. I told her that and we talked about it. She was just too ashamed to tell anyone and I understood. Of course she was one of the first people I talked to when I started looking into surgery for myself because I knew she'd understand.

The second one is more of an acquaintance who came to me with a confession several months ago. She had lost a lot of weight like 10 years ago. I didn't even know her when she was fat, but people would talk about how great she looks and how much weight she lost. She was working out a lot and had really gotten into kick boxing. Even entered a few amateur competitions. Then she got out of the kick boxing thing but has remained thin. After she found out I had surgery (I tell everyone that asks), she was acting kind of funny. She finally pulled me aside and confessed that she had bypass all those years ago and only her husband knows. After seeing everyone's supportive response to my news she said she just had to get it off her chest. She's felt guilty all these years for lying to her friends but now doesn't know how to make it right. I told her no one would even care about the surgery, but it's hard to know how they might react to the fibbing part. A true friend will understand and get over it, but you never know who your "fake friends" may turn out to be. She's still struggling with what to do, but has told a few of her closest friends in confidence and they have been OK with it.

To tell or not is a hot debate on here, but in the end you have to do what you feel is best for you. Knowing I couldn't live with the guilt of deceiving everyone, I was totally open about it and willing to take on and deal with any negative responses. Turns out I have incredibly loving, supporting, non-judgmental people in my live, so it worked out great. Good luck with what you decide.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
