5 Days Post Op...will I be okay?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today I am 5 days post op and woke up feeling fine. I was prescribed Voltaren for pain and I take that at night so that I am able to sleep on my left side. My daughter had this procedure done as well and told me that she was not able to sleep on her side for 3 months.

I woke up extremely hungry (do you think that it is only in my mind?)

I still have not went out walking, even for 10 minutes, and I know that I should. I will make the extra effort tomorrow since it is already night where I am.

This afternoon at 4:30pm I poured myself 1 cup of beef broth and 1 cup of coconut Water. Without thinking, it was already 5:30pm and I finished both of the liquids! My stomach was gurgling. Will I be okay? Do you think that I might have stretched and opened up my stomach because I drank so much?

From now on, I will be more mindful of how I drink.

If you're feeling okay, I don't believe you stretched your sleeve. If you had stretched your sleeve, I think your staple line would be hurting like crazy right now. I got the hiccups the day after surgery and stretched my new sleeve a bit. I thought the pain would never end.

Flavored Water is a slider food for me. I can easily drink 8 to 12 ozs very quickly without feeling full.

From my reading and research over the past 2 years, it is very very difficult to stretch the sleeve, as it is made up primarily of the tough, non-stretchy section of the stomach. The research says you can stretch your sleeve, but you have to deliberately work at it and it's painful, but it can be done. Overeating once or twice won't do it.

I think if you opened up your stomach you would know. I'm not a doctor, but I don't believe you would be able to post if your stomach had opened up. That being said, for the first 10 days my surgeon had me on 1ounce of liquid every 15mins. Yep! No Proteins. The only good thing about that is I had zero hunger. Thank God. I was so nervous about complications, I followed instructions to the letter until I saw her on day 11. So, unless you were told specifically how much to consume per hour, just slow down and take good care of yourself. Best.

@@joatsaint Thank you for suggesting the flavored Water. I will try that. I was just so worried :)

@@finediva My doctor said to drink 1/2 cup of liquid every half hour and no Proteins yet until day 11. I will see my doctor on day 10. Thank you so much for replying :)

My doctor wants me taking liquid Proteins within 72 hours after surgery. in 2 to 4 oz servings with 64 oz of Water a day starting the next day. He says the Protein helps speed up the healing process. Its amazing the different advice different doctors give.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
