We all love bread and pasta...that's what got most of us to where we were before the sleeve. It's all about choices.

I can only speak for myself, but Pasta, bread and rice all trigger my carb cravings and make me want to over eat. Those types of high glycemic carbs are quickly broken down and turned into glucose, which spikes my blood sugar. Just a few hours later, my blood sugar comes crashing down and I'm craving carbs again.

I don't get those blood sugar highs and lows by eating Protein or low glycemic carbs. My blood sugar levels stay even or rise at a slower, more moderate, rate and my head hunger doesn't happen as often.

I'm lost. What are hood carbs?

I eat carbs - but I try to stick to foods that are low-glycemic - vegetables, Beans, lentils. I normally try to eat 75% Protein and 25% carbs on average.

But I do eat things like Pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, donuts (at most 1 per day... err, on a stressful day, sometimes 2  ), Rasin Bran (I fill a 12oz cup halfway and eat it dry), and the occasional cookie or small piece of cake - but I had to learn how much of each I could eat without causing carb cravings or slowing my weight loss. It took time to figure it out.

Whenever I see my weight going up, day after day, I cut back on the sugar, flour and Pasta - and stick to Protein and vegetables. And monitor my portions more closely. That gets me back on track.

There's nothing I can't/won't eat, but it's all in moderation and I choose what I'm will to accept (think weight gain) as a consequence.

The problem with carbs for most people is that we over eat them. Carbs in moderation are ok. But how many of us who are overweight eat in serving sizes? I know I didn't so if you can't control your portions to the correct serving size some carbs (bad) will cause you to pack on the pounds. In my case it's just best to avoid the bad carbs all together And find alternatives.

Good carbs are such veggies/ fruits have good carbs.. Protein Bars that have less carb

your original post said "hood" carbs. Didn't realize it was a typo. I thought I was learning something new on the food scene.

I try to avoid the "white" carbs, things like breads, Pasta, white rice. I do eat the good carbs like Beans, veg. I suppose eventually I will eat whole wheat or brown rice Pasta and brown rices. The difference is what your body does with them. Good carbs are called complex carbs. In addition to carbs, they also contain Fiber and other nutrients. White carbs have been stripped of all of that. For example in making white rice the husk, bran & germ are been stripped off. So all that work your body would have done to break it down has already been done. Your body doesn't have to work as hard to break it down. Unfortunately that processing also strips it of nutrients. So your body doesn't burn any fat breaking it down and it has lost most of it's nutrients. This is true of pretty much all processed foods.

So if you are trying to lose, simple carbs don't help. Hence why most people avoid them.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
