Dr. Rodrigues & Dr. Elmo in Tijuana Mexico at Hospital Angeles

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled in March with the Dr.'s listed above. I'm just wondering if any one has had their VSG with them, if so how was your experience & how are you doing to date? Any info would be appreciated. I did lots of research and I'm looking forward to my new beginning! Happy holidays!

I had surgery with dr rod on dec 20! My experience was great! Felt very comfortable. Nurses were great! Dr was fine, saw him 3 times briefly. Talked more with dr Elmo. I'm home and feeling great! Protein Drinks are gross! But other that that I'm getting my fluids in and choking down the protein! No pain pills since I left the hospital! Drove my self to target yesterday! Walked 10,000 steps the day before! Not hungry, lots of gas! Small spasms when drinking! Everything is tolerable! Good luck! You'll do great!

I actually went to Juarez. I'm on Clear Liquids for one week. This is the worst part! I hate the vile protein!!! I bought 2 cases of Isopure rtd and they are gross, but I don't want to lose my hair so I'm forcing my self to drink! I also bought Unjury unflavored powder, I mix that with tea and it's more tolerable! I can't wait to get on full

liquid. But time will fly

@jgarti00, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm excited to start my process! Can you tell me if you are mixing your Protein in your broth, Jello and other clear liquids or drinking the Isopure clear protein drinks?

Hi Sarah,

I just wrote a detailed account of my experience at Hospital Angeles with Dr. Rod and Dr. Elmo. It was truly excellent!

for medical travelers who wish to stay in the U.S. for VSG surgery Dallas seems to be the best option if you need to fly to your surgeon. Cost of VSG in Dallas is half what it cost in the Northern part of the U.S. probably due to the competition Texas Bariatric surgeons face from their lower cost colleagues just across the border. Dr. NIcholson is the best option I was able to find in Dallas for an out of town vsg payment. His price is 12,200 for a vsg. I chose DR. Corvala at Hospital Angeles in TJ as I think that offers the best quality to price ratio but for those not comfortable with TJ or catching a lot of grief about going to Mexico like i am, Dallas and Dr.NIcholson are a viable high quality low cost alternative to TJ.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
