@@wannaBthinsoon I too have UHC. I had my surgery on Dec. 12th. Their bariatric group is absolutely the best to work with. They assigned a bariatric case manager to me that followed my case through the entire approval process. I was approved on my first submission. Whatever case manager you are assigned will also follow you monthly through the first 6 months post op to make sure that you're not having any problems, and everything is going well.

I'm very happy I have UHC. They have truly taken a lot of stress out of this process for me.

I have UHC West, I just switched over to them on 1/1/15 from Blue Shield of CA. My Bariatric clinic told me they also require 6 months of Medically Supervised Weight Loss visits with my primary care doctor in order to get the surgery. It would be great if I only had to do 3 months, as I have already done that. I just called them to make sure, their answer was yes it's covered, but for requirements you have to call your doctor. Great help they are.

I did 6 months starting in June in preparation for this, so my PCP provided me with those notes for the Bariatric hospital and UHC. I also had a sleep study over the summer and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now use a cpap, which is a co morbidity, and will help me be approved. I have my 1st consult with UHC case manager, and my 1st surgeons appt on 1/26!! I;m on a roll!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
