Hello, I'm new to this and just started my journey, hopefully my surgery will be the end of April or beginning of May. I know that you have to have a lot of Protein and I was just wondering what kind/brand of protein powders do you guys use/like. I went to GNC and there was like a million different kinds and brands.

I like muscletech, the flavors are good, and they have an unflavored version. I also like to add peppermint extract (just a tiny drop) to my choc. drink, makes it better. There are other extracts out there (almond, maple, orange, lemon...)that would work with the vanilla. Use your own discretion, it may not agree with you. I get my powders on Amazon.com, as I live in a very rural area. My area stores don't carry a lot of variety. Good luck to you and Merry Christmas!

Everyone's tastes are different, so you should check for samples in your local whole food/health food/body building store. Nashua Nutrition also has dozens of different ones they will send samples of. And you can usually find samplers of Syntrax Nectars and Un jury online.

Personally, I like Muscle Milk, Premier, Syntrax Matrix, Syntrax nectar, Spirutein, Garden of Life Raw Fit and Raw Protein, and BSN syntha6. I did NOT like Jay Robb (except piña colada), Isopure, Bariatric fusion or Bariatric Advantage. Optimum Nutrition and Designer whey were OK but not my favs. I like the GNC lean bars but have never tried their drinks or powders.< /p>

I also use Torani SF syrups to add variety to my Protein smoothies.

Body Logic, chocolate, is a new one carried by my surgeon. Has Stevia in it and I really like it at this point. I get sick of them so switch it out.

At GNC specifically, I like their Total Lean 25 powder.

As far as ready-to-drink Proteins go, I like the Premier Protein as well. I thought they tasted great.

Protein powders are a different story. You might need to try a few before you find one you really like. My advice would be to still to a whey protein isolate. It is the purest form of whey protein - low calorie, low/no carbs, and low/no sugar as well.

I just bought the Syntrax nectar Protein Powder in vanilla torte and love it. I doctor my drinks a bit with different sugar free syrups.I used to try and stay away from Protein shakes and get all of my protein from food, but since starting to work out 5 days a week a few months ago I add a shake or two per day to really bump up my protein intake.

Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
