3 week stall turning to 4 week stall

Recommended Posts

I understand why and I'm okay with it (besides, I lost another 1/2 inch off my waist this week). Just grousing about it, though - I want to see the numbers move again!

Also, for those of you who didn't tell anyone, maybe you were right. Everyone around me is so nice about things, but they all keep asking me how much I've lost now, and I really don't want to give them the same number I did a week ago!!

I agree with you there on the constantly asking about a number. At times when I am stalled I simply tell them I have not lost any weight, but I have lost a 1/2 in off of my waist, or I have gained a half inch of muscle on my bicep. I just simply give them a different number to talk about. It does not always work, but it is a start.

On the stalls, I urge you to check out a post on my blog about Goal Setting: From the Mundane to the Insane. I think it will address your concerns a little better. It can be found at this link: wakingupfromheavysetdreams.blogspot.com/2014/11/mundane-to-insane-goal-setting-for.html

I strongly urge you to check it out. There may even be some other articles you may find helpful. If there is anything else I can do to be of help or an encouragement to you, please let me know. I will do what I can for you. I know you will beat this plateau and move on to even more amazing things!

Hang in there! I am in the same stall and we will get through it. I keep busting my butt at the gym and following my program knowing it will pay off sometime in the future. Logically, we all know stalls happen and is a normal part of the process. Unfortunately, it does not make it any easier when we are in the middle of it and it always seems so so long! Hang in there and the scale will start showing your hard work again soon!

Yeah, I've stalled out since Thanksgiving, although I do notice I'm losing inches. I get it and I know what's happening, even though it's still frustrating. The worst part is my husband thinking he knows exactly why the scale isn't moving. No, honey, you don't know, but thanks.

I've been in a stall too since about Thanksgiving--like 41 pounds lost and holding. I've noticed the inches coming off a lot and have dropped from a 22W to between a 16W and a 18W Petite (mainly because I'm only 5'6", and the pant legs are too darn long!). I'm hoping the scales start showing a change soon--I know it's a stall and I'm keeping my Protein and fluids going (and exercise!!!)--I'd just like to hit the under 200 mark soon. I'm only 7 lbs off that mark.

I'm doing just about the same. My weight has completely stalled, but I'm losing dress sizes. Also, my skin is tightening up on my upper arms and stomach and face, so I can't really complain. There is a definite up side to stalls!

A nutritionist friend explained that this stall is often due to Water taking the place of the fat in the fat cells. That makes sense to me because I am pouring so much Water into myself, but I don't see an equal amount coming out. And so now as long as I am losing something somewhere somehow, I don't worry.

Thank you so much for all the support! I'm betting I gained some today just from salt, even though my eating wasn't awful I did have ham today. Not going to stress over it, just drink more Water tomorrow to flush it out!

Hope everyone had a great day! :)

OMG !!! I found my group !!!! I am 2 1/2 months from surgery and I have been in a stall since Thanksgiving as well !!! These past 3 / 4 weeks have been torture! I've bounced between 2 to 3 pounds for 3 almost 4 weeks. I have had some major NSVs.. but the scale... oh the damn scale! Please move. Especially since it's hovering between 250 and 252. I want to permanently break that 250 mark !!!

Thank you guys for posting your story and letting me know that there are others !!!

HUGS !

Waiting for the scale to move is a killer, isn't it? This is the point where I'd normally say, "forget it" and go back to old habits, but the sleeve won't let me - THAT'S why I had this thing done, and I'm so happy it's doing the job I needed it to do!

My stall finally broke over Christmas, when I started real food. Then this morning I was up 7 pounds, lol. I'm also breaking out and grouchy, so I'm going to push through and attribute it to the period I thought I was going to completely skip this month. It seems to be heading my way!

Mine started the week before Thanksgiving.

On the up side, here I am after Christmas and my weight is the SAME. Ha! Those 5 (or more) pounds added over the holidays did not happen.

When I put on the belt I usually wear this morning, it was comfortably a notch tighter. Should take my measurements again...

Wow - so many people here with the same story I have!! I had my surgery Nov 10th, 2014. Lost almost a pound a day for the first few weeks then almost completely stopped losing since! I've only lost 5 freakin' pounds in the past month - and for only my second month after RNY, that seems really pitiful. It's very hard not to be very discouraged and feel like my surgery didn't "work" at this point. I've tried adjusting my calorie intake up and down - and neither is moving that darn scale. I don't really know what I can possibly do different, so I will keep doing the same thing and expect some results soon. (Isn't that the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? )

So good to have found this forum! Had my RNY Dec 8th, onto soft foods Dec 24th, and as of Dec 31, down 32 lbs. I thought I was doing something wrong. It's only been 4 days since last lbs lost, I am increasing my Water. At age 66 with arthritis in both knees exercise is not too much of an option right now. I do have some "Sit and Be Fit" dvds I need to play and participate in. And may also try just walking laps through the house now I don't need my walker inside at all. Still discouraging to stall though as it is so early post surgery. Is this really normal?

Happy to report when I got on the scale today, my stall is hopefully ended. Down 4 more lbs! Hooray! For anyone hitting a stall I can only encourage you to keep going, do your daily food journal, exercise if you can, and drink every drop of required Water. If you do all that, your stall will end. It took me almost 5 weeks and I have my hope back again. Since surgery as of today I'm down 35 lbs in just under 7 weeks. I'll take that! Keep the faith everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
